i just want to use a controller for d3 on pc and I know I’m not the only one so what can we do to get an official controller the mouse is not fun to play with and everyone i want to play with has switched to pc. trying to play with a mouse its horrible knowing how much better a controller is for the game.
The problem with this is that it would require a different movement system, as iirc console players can directly control the movement of their character and PC players just kinda lead them around in a more “classic” Diablo style.
Personally I’ve never been a fan of dragging my character around on the end of a cursor in games, but I’ve also never been a fan of aiming with a stick and there are many builds that would suffer from it.
If you absolutely have to play with a controller, there are options out there, some of which work pretty well for certain builds (WW/rend barb is a good candidate for these).
This is a point which I think many people overlook. Some builds require aiming in the middle of the crowd to deal damage efficiently but aiming with a controller on consoles allows targeting the front row only. This severely hinders the performance of these builds.
From someone who played a lot of D3 on console, Mouse and KB is waaaaay better once you get used to it.
I started on PC with M/KB and didn’t like it at all (mainly play FPS on PC). After a couple of days, I got used to it but I still felt like I wanted to use a controller again.
I got REWASD controller mapping for D3 and gave it a try. It was awful. After using M/KB the controller feels super sluggish and with no accuracy. Miscellaneous tasks like salvaging and organizing my stash was awful with the controller.
Try REWASD and see if it works for you, I just used the free trial.
There’s a better set of D3-specific scripts you can use, not sure on policy for linking such things but I’ll jump on that grenade. here’s the video on it: Controller Support
I tried it with Barb and set it up as recommended and it was really well-done, but that class/build has no aimed skills so it should be considered the exception and not the rule.
