Consistent 1016 Error

Ever since the latest maintenance ended, my game is consistently crashing within one minute of logging into the game with either a 1016 or 1001 error. I am running Windows 11 with all of the latest driver updates. The internet connection is hard lined into the laptop and all other internet properties and programs are running as intended. Battle Net is the only program with connection issues. Please help as I am not able to play the game at all.

Update

I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions from the Technical Support files with no success. I have all the MSInfo and DXDiag information available upon reques

Hey there! Let’s go ahead and have you run a ‘WinMTR’ network test while the problem occurs in-game so that we can further investigate potential network-related issues between your computer and the game server. Here are the instructions:

  1. Download the tool from this page
  2. Enter the game IP into the “host” field. The IP address for our games are listed on the WinMTR instructions page
  3. Start the test and play the game for at least 15 minutes. Ensure the problem happens while the WinMTR tool is running.
  4. After recording the problem data, click “export text” and save the WinMTR file in an easy to find location.
  5. Once you have that made, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the WinMTR. It’ll look like this:
WinMTR goes here

If you have issues pasting here, please use Pastebin and post the link (ex: Pastebin (dot) com/123456).

This is not our end. Here is what Winmtr posted.

This happens to my wife on Overwatch, D2, D3 and WoW. This Happens to me all the time on D2 and D3, I quit WoW because of getting dropped all the time. I know I’m not the only one who tried EVERY fix Blizzard has posted. This ran in a four player D3 game until it dropped and gave code 1016 as an excuse. I watched the launcher app reset itself. Th app goes blank, and relogs me in. I had just reloaded it after completely wiping it, and the cache. Stop blaming us.

You need to let the WinMTR run for 10 mins or so. That is only the very first hop. It should have data for 10-15 different physical locations your data is routed through. Where is the rest of your WinMTR test?

The servers for these games are in very different places running very different software. If it is happening across multiple games and on two different computers, it is likely something with the local network OR something between your house and the end servers you connect to.

Another option is security software you both might run or a firewall, even local network traffic/congestion.

If it was the games alone there would be hundreds of thousands of posts today about it in all the game forums.

If you really want any help at all, you need to post the rest of the WinMTR.

I’ve been having issues with 1016 errors as well. It only happens in Adventure Mode and there are frequent lag spikes and it typically bombs out when moving between areas. Posting logs below.

Edit: Through a VPN it was much better but still disconnected me when I went idle for 5 minutes to help with the kids. Posting that log below, too.

Hey, Phane!

Thanks for reaching out with that WinMTR test. The test is showing packet loss beginning at the first hop (the connection from the computer to the router/modem). If the connection overall seemed more stable on the VPN, at that point we can be sure that the issue is isolated to the primary network.

If a wired connection doesn’t fix the issue or isn’t possible, and the troubleshooting steps here have no impact, I recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance determining what is causing the packet loss. They might need to adjust network-level security/firewall settings or temporarily replace the network devices in your home to narrow it down further. Additionally, I always recommend requesting to be forwarded to a “level 2 or level 3 technician” when contacting the ISP since the front-line representatives typically only have access to basic diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.

Hopefully this information has provided further insight into the situation and helps get things fixed up so you can get back to playing as normal! Let us know if you have any questions going forward.

I have this issue also.

and its new, only since the patch went live. Nothing has changed with my ISP or my PC. I am running windows11. but it was fine on Windows11 before the latest patch>

Can’t quite pin point what is going on, its fine for about 5-10 minutes then boots me

I am also having this issue it only started yesterday and nothing has changed with my computer or isp also.

I have been having this issue for the past few days. Usually, a few seconds after transitioning from areas. I have to exit the game, close the battle net app, and reopen everything.
