Because of 2 banwaves that season, not because of the para cap.
That is not how it works, if they stopped playing their profile would also be greyed out. I have had several casual friends who havent logged in for long time and they also have a greyed out profile. Another example; lets take rank 1000 of the solo barb in season 20, he had slightly less then 2k para, he also has a greyed profile.
How do you know they’re legit? Just because they didn’t get banned?
How do you know who’s cheating on the LB’s even now? Just because they aren’t banned?
How do you determine how many people DIDN’T play, specifically because of the para cap? And how do you know they were all cheaters who ONLY got discouraged BECAUSE of the para cap?

You’ve spent six years engaging in a sunk cost fallacy. That has nothing to do with the price of watermelons in january, let alone whether the para cap was “sufficient data” for thwarting cheaters.
Where is the DATA? Show me numbers. I want player counts. For the 3 months of whatever season the para cap was, WHAT WAS THE PLAYER COUNT? ACTIVE PLAYER COUNT. Give me that.
Then give me the ACTIVE PLAYER COUNT for the season PRIOR, and the season AFTER.
THEN tell me some foolproof method for detecting cheaters based on para cap alone.
ONLY THEN can you make a rational argument for para cap thwarting cheaters.
UNTIL then, all you have is correlative straws you’re desperately clutching at because otherwise you’d have to admit you spent 6 years doing nothing of consequence.
Check the leaderboards for your proof, its there and been there.
Also, the guy has posted in this very thread about how happy he was to get an opportunity to compete for rank 1.
The front pages were very tough to get on for a legit player in seasons without a paragon cap or frequent bans, but the cheaters remain on the boards after they are banned if the account doesn’t log in after receiving the notice.
The majority of the D3 player base drops after the first week anyways lol. They finish the season journey then split.
Smells like a filthy cheater to me. 3+ months of grinding GRs would drive anyone nuts. Sure its humanly possible, but definitely not probable.
Incorrect. If you would have read any of my posts, you’ll quickly discover my distaste towards cheaters. Paragon cap is just one of many methods Blizz can implement to battle the cheaters, nothing more. I find it wildly entertaining that you are so against para caps, but thats fine. It was a simple idea that was affective but maybe not for everyone. Point your opposition towards the devs that implemented the cap, not me lol. I am a fan of any action that hinders or removes cheaters. Action is better the nothing.
Lol, ask the company, not a forum user. As a large clan leader, I can go off our teams activity but cannot get a number outside of what I manage.
Leaderboards are another great source of info at your disposal. Check dates on clears.
Despite your great experience as a large clan leader or being a veteran player you blindly assume that all the s20 frontpage barbs were cheaters, even though it is most likely that they have greyed out profiles because of inactivity.

its crazy to see people on the leaderboard with 163 hours played within the first 7 days, thats only 5 hours not online. Surely blizzard could easily detect someone cheating that hard. I don’t care if someone who is botting a few hours a day goes undetected, but if someone is on 22+ hours a day for 5+ days straight they should be banned immediately.
I dont like the idea of a paragon cap, its fun to get stronger while you play even if you aren’t finding any good upgrades. Even with a paragon cap the botters will have a massive gear advantage.

Why don’t you suggest putting an ACTUAL TIME CAP on hours played per day? Botters LITERALLY get ZERO advantage if EVERY SINGLE CONNECTION can ONLY last 5 hours per 24. Or 8 per 24. Hell, make it 12 hours per 24 on weekends. TIME, literally TIME, is what they benefit from. TIME that you spend typing HERE, is TIME botters spend CHEATING in the game. You are LITERALLY wasting TIME by posting here, while THEY are FARMING KEYS.

Right, guy you are talking about was not solo. And that guy probly should have got ban. But it seem they only run seson-end banwave in SSF, not in group mode.
Most seasons I would agree. This was P800 cap season though, so no group xp advantage. According to many pro cap people, SSFM was on equal footing with group, so all individual LBs can be compared.

They rarely do a banwave in any mode. They cherry pick off many of the most egregious offenders, which is why many fall through the cracks.

Still do not see why not just have mode each season with cap + ssf. Those who don’t like it don’t play it and those who do like it will use it.
As for “guy” you are talking about, well, here is problem, this guy is very good player.
Real issue is not, bad player gets cheats, now bad player is great player. Real issue is, person who is already great player gets cheats, now is total unbeatable.
Cheat is not like upgrade spear to nuclear bomb, it is like put scope on rifle. Yah, you can shoot far away thing without scope, but much easier with scope.
Even without “scope”, player you talk about is “good shot”. Probly he could beat me even if not cheating.
This all why 3 things needed, combine, to get more fair board- 2 or more banwave a seson, SSF, and gons cap.
I know many people, like you, not want this, so just make this separate mode, and have come back each seasson. This probably save you from having gons cap season in future!

There’s no need for “well, let’s do X in addition to banning” NO. ABSOLUTELY NO.
They can BAN cheaters, and they CHOOSE NOT TO. That’s a BLIZZ problem, and you’re NOT EVER going to solve it by “well, let’s make cheating less effective.”

You think YOU know better than a billion dollar company with entire TEAMS dedicated to catching hackers? They literally aren’t doing their job, and instead of firing them or financially incentivizing them to do their job, we get “well let’s have 1,400 posts in a forums they don’t even read.”
I’m not even being sarcastic. They don’t come here for ideas or discussion. The forums have been on record for about a DECADE to ONLY be a place where players can discuss among themselves. They don’t typically come here to interact with us. They have this spot for us to interact with each other.

Leaderboards will never be fair when rat runners are allowed to have their paragons usable in solo gr. Please for the love of god separate the paragons for both group gr and solo gr or make it so that you get a significant reduction to the levels when you’re trying to do solo gr when you have done thousands of levels in group gr. THANKS!
You do have SSF mode nowadays.
So, three modes for SC and three for HC, regular, SSFM, SSFM with cap. If they do that then totally fine.
Good or not, did he dust your time because he was good or because he botted 1000s more keys than you did? Was he good or he dusted your time because he botted better gear than you?
Plain and simple, a cap does not make things fair. You needed to put in 300+ hours to almost be competitive with someone who put in 10-15 hours and cheated for 1600 hours. That doesn’t sound even remotely fair to me.
He definite have more keys than me. But gear, think his gear is not better than mine, maybe little worse actually.
