I can’t figure out the whole “challenge rift” stuff.
As a Wizard my character is already gimped to high heaven, so I can’t do much.
The challenge rift cache is always out of my reach
How do I get passed this nonsense to level up in Altar of Rites?
Just do 4man challenge rift and hope the other 3 carry you. Usually pretty easy.

I’ve never played D3 with other players…even though I’ve been playing since D1
I don’t even know how to start it.
How do I find other players that would help me?
Just chose 4 man at the challenge rift.

The Challenge Rift is a game mode. You select it in the same place that you select Campaign or Adventure mode.

You can enter Challenge Rift mode as public game. You can also enter this mode as private game and then make it public - then you just wait until someone connects. Usually Challenge Rifts are easily doable solo.
If you fail the first time, just try to remember positions of elite packs/large groups of trash/pylons, as these are “fixed” per Challenge Rift, and then try to optimize your path. Eventually you’ll be able to beat the original rift time, and that automatically grants you the cache (you will be able to collect it when you return to Campaign or Adventure mode).
