Logged on to D3 , selected character , pressed start button, screen changed to Diablo logo and froze for about a minute then changed to say
“The game connection has been lost: your client has been disconnected from the server.”
Pressed OK and screen reverted back to show the character. Game is still connected to server.
Sometimes the game will do things like that. Ctrl+Alt+Del and a Restart usually fixes it.
Tried your suggestion but does not work.
However; I have no problem when using Asia server.
Tried Battle.net update but got pop-up saying
“We couldn’t load that”
Have you tried running Scan and Repair from the App?
On your web Armory Profile I can see you have one Seasonal Character on the Americas Region. It looks like you were able to play him Sunday. I don’t know what might have happened since then.
You have a non-Seasonal Demon Hunter, which is your only Character, on the Asia Region that you played today. (I’m guessing you were just testing to see if you could even get into a game).

Have performed Scan and Repair but it did not help.
On the American region I have (non-seasonal) 3 DH, 3 monks and 2 of each of the other types of heroes, plus (seasonal ) 1 necro and I was able to play every one of them until Sunday.
The no-seasonal DH on the Asia Region played today was just testing if I could get into a game and it did ok.
I have the same problem, I haven’t been able to enter the game for a few days. Last time the “loading hero list” error occurred, I had to wait for the next update for the problem to be resolved, this time it will probably be the same.
