One of the most annoying features of the game is the loud and incessant taunting from my characters as I play. I wish to turn just the taunting off but still listen to all the dialogue with other characters and conversations. In fact I keep the “voice volume” up very high because I like the lore and flavor conversations I can find while exploring, but those vocals are much lower in volume than the repeated shouts of : “YOUR FEAR BETRAYS YOU!!!”, “BACK TO HELL DOG!!!”, etc. and it is actually painful when listening with headphones because of the difference in volume. the taunting was fine for the first few hours, but since each character only knows like two or three taunts it gets REALLY old!
Obviously Barbarian taunts.
One of the few times I played a Barb, he tried to taunt and exclaim that he was out of Fury at the same time. The sentence came out as:
“I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH FURY, DOG!”
“I’ll taste your fear!” sounds a lot like “I’ll taste your beer!” if you’ve been drinking some.
I’d like to be able to turn off the “skill’s on cooldown” and the follower’s “Ooh, look, an elite!” speeches.
And the female Demon Hunter’s continuous, “Feel my rat!”
So, when I said I’d like to be able to turn off some of the speech in the game (i.e. you’re out of resources, your skill’s on cooldown, oh an elite) you tell me how to mute all speeches in the game and then roll your eyes at me as if I’m the one that’s missed something obvious. If someone said they had a sore toe would your response be to cut their leg off?
I was asking for more granularity, i.e. to be able to mute certain types of error speech, or follower announcements, not a big, binary on/off button (that I already knew about).
A much better and more practical solution to reducing the critical hit taunts is simply to roll off all the CHC on your gear and removing the paragon points for it. 0% CHC equals 0% taunts. How come you didn’t think of that one, genius?
After high volume sound effects during the first 3 years, i ve muted the game for 4 years now. So much more peace.
I’ve done pretty much the same. Just put on some music I like when I’m playing. The in game sounds give me a headache…
It has a lot to do with the fact that I never asked to be able to suppress critical hit taunts. How come you didn’t think of that?
Doh! Yes, read that like you were the OP, sorry 'bout that, but it was also tongue in cheek and not meant to offend, apologies if it did.
Enchantress: I’m bleeding!
Barb: I will not be denied!
You can’t get 0% CHC in D3. 5% is “backed in” as a minimum.
I don’t even play with game sounds at all I hit CTRL-S and never looked back. Not sure why people feel the need to have them going. If they gave me something useful like say “5 seconds left on Vyrs” or “3 seconds left on epiphany” but I am out of resources is not helpful at all so just ignore it all. And just forget the inane ramblings of the templar " I’ll be telling stories about that for a while!"
Seriously Kormac Shutup already!
I guess I just haven’t played enough to be completely bored of all the sounds. There are a few useful noises like the treasure goblin giggle which I would miss if i just muted the whole thing, but I still haven’t taken the time to listen to all the dialogue. That is one of the things that I really appreciate about blizzard, the attention to detail! Have you ever wandered around town just to hear the townsfolk chat? I find myself taking a portal back to town after every event in story mode just so I can walk close to NPC’s and hear little bits of flavor text tied to the quest I am on. I enjoy all that, and after playing on and off since the game started I still haven’t heard it all! There are subtle differences depending on which character you are using, and there are a lot of characters! I know that no one else gives a crap, but a game with this much dialogue that is actually GOOD and entertaining shouldn’t cover it up with cheap repetitive sound garbage. When I play D3 I want it to sound like a finely crafted game written and developed by an enormous team of talented artists, not like any other crap phone app being vomited out by talent-less hacks. That is what the game sounds like to me, and it doesn’t help that the sound garbage is permanently set at 20X the normal speech volume. So if I want to listen to some random book I found about the history of that cult on greyhollow island, I have to TP back or else I won’t be able to hear a thing over the useless, loud, obnoxious, monotonous droning that has caused all you veteran players to mute the entire game. that seems like a pretty big problem to me. As artists, and entertainers, the dev’s probably wanted people to enjoy the atmosphere and ambiance they presented in it’s entirety. That is clearly not what is happening here on the user end. That’s all I’m trying to say. I think that some criticism is necessary for improvement and unless someone feels like that particular aspect of the game is adding to their enjoyment, then I think we should give them some feedback. “Hey, the whole barbarian enchantress double entendre thing was funny the first 50 times we heard it, but it’s all getting a little stale!”
Wow. sorry for the rant.
Who listens to in-game audio these days anyway?
Listen to great timeless music, here you go babe
YOUR FeAR BETRAYS YOU.
Just turn of the sound completely.
That’s at least what I did when I last played D3, cause playing a Condemn Crusader is unbearable otherwise

Listen to great timeless music, here you go babe
