Can sanctified items be un-sanctified?

With season 27, you can have any number of sanctified items but can only ever equip just one, will players have the option to un-sanctify items? Or are you SOL, you should not have sanctified the item so you now have to grind and find a replacement item for the errantly sanctified item?

Sorry, didn’t play the PTR so wanted a general idea before the new season started so that I go sanctify-happy on everything whenever I get one of those crucible things. TIA

Pretty sure a sanctification is permanent.

Good question. I would assume you can reforge them in the cube and lose the sanctified status.

There are no reasons to unsanctify an item. Since you choose yourself which item you want to sanctify. And since the powers of the sanctified item doesn’t care about the item type there would be no reason to sanctify a new item.

If you sanctify a weapon or an amulet, you get the same pool of 3 effects possible.

There is reason if you sanctified two items of which you wish to wear both. One would need to be unsanctified to be able to wear both. For example, if both your weapon and offhand items were sanctified.

You can re-sactify the same item.
You can only have one equiped.
You can sanct. any item found, but not crafted.
You can’t give it to your follower.

That is known and not what is being asked. If you have two items that you need to wear and both had been sanctified, one of them would have to be un-sanctified to use both.

I never tested it in PTR. But hopefully reforging a Sanc’d item will revert it back to non Sanc status.

Yeah maybe reforgeing could help?
Also people just need to bare in mind, that they should always sanct. one item and always the one that has been sanct. already.

Then, you yourself chose to do it. That’s what i meant when i said: “You choose which items to sanctify”

So, best course of action is usually to sanctify an item that you know you’ll probably use until endgame, unless you’re lucky enough to get a primal/ancient with good enough stats to swap out the sanctified. In that case, you just sanctify another item to gain the power increase.

There is no reason to unsanctify an item if you think and plan ahead for your build and character.

Regardless, it is a valid question for someone who may have made a mistake and needed to reverse the process. As we have suggested hopefully reforging will provide the necessary function.

I tested it and it does exactly that.

Ugh, I can’t remember but I seem to recall that crafted items didn’t work. But maybe I’m thinking of something else.

Probably a typo but to clarify: You cannot give a sanctified item to a follower.

If I remember Followers cannot wear Sanc items either.

Correct, Crafted items cannot be Sanc’d

Yes i wanted to write can’t give to follower. And i meant any item that you find, crafted items can’t be sanct. I’ll edit it.

If you have 2 items you want to wear and can only wear one that is sanctified why on earth would you sanctify both when you already know you can only wear one

I assumed not and that we would have to do the process like this:

First sanctify is some item which is the furthest from ideal rolls you currently have (so opposite of first augments). The power will make up for possible bad rolls.

Keep a good normal version of said item in your stash for when you sanctify something else.

Do the same with another item in your build, but keep a bad one.

Sanctify that bad one and if it is better you replace the previous with the good normal version in your stash.

Question I do have though, as far as I understand a bit later on when you have decent versions of all items you choose which slot to sanctify in general based on which is the hardest to get good rolls on? So for instance probably never your helmet because getting mainstat/crit/skill damage isn’t that hard, but off-hand/jewelry?

De-sanctify, if implemented would simply reroll the item anyways, chances are a non ancient crap roll. As it could be free it would be used to get better “reforge” result. Sanctify-desanctify not good? → do it again.

Reforging in cube does the same, but would cost resources. I reforged sanctified item in cube on ptr and it works.

Only in very early season I would have such situation, a few days into season I’d have many duplicates anyways, so in my opinion desanctifying is not really needed other than possible cheaper reforges.

You can reforge. Just tested it. Good thinking!

pretty sure this is correct but remember when you reforge an item you get completely different stats so keep that in mind when you “unsanctify” something…I recommend just getting that item again and the sanctified one just salvage it for the 15 forgotten souls

How are you reforging it??? I can’t even put it into the cube. I have more than enough of the other necessary stats.
