Caldesann's despair change

What is with the change that stops you from putting Caldesann’s despair on socked items? There seems like no legitimate reason to do that other than to anger the community.

It seems like Blizzard is trying to drive people away from D3 in hopes they will migrate to D4 so they can make more money off of us.

Umm what?
Never heard of the issue you are experiencing, i can enchant caldessan on my socketed items with zero problems whatsoever.

It says it now on the despair “Cannot be inserted into any item with sockets” both on hardcore and on regular characters. Never seen that before.

Maybe you are mistaking the Whisper of Atonement for Caldesann’s Despair. Caldesann’s Despair is not “inserted” anywhere, you get Caldesann’s Despair “imprinted” to an item by transmuting an ancient item together with a legendary gem and 3 flawless royal gems.

I’ve been using it without an issue. I don’t go all the way to the Caldesan’s Despair page on the cube, I just open the cube, add my 3 gems, my legendary gem or the whisper of atonement and the item I want and Boom, adds the extra power.

PS I just saw your other post. You CANNOT add the whisper of atonement into the socket. You have to use 3 flawless gems along with the WoA and an item you want the power to be added in the cube.

PSS be sure you use the right flawless gems for your character. Looks like you’re running a DH, so Emeralds.

No. It doesn’t.

Notice the Gems that are allowed for Caldesann’s Despair. You Transmute 3 Flawless Royal Gems of one of the four types shown. Depending on which type you use will add a specific Attribute to your Ancient item:

Amethyst = Vitality
Emerald = Dexterity
Ruby = Strength
Topaz = Intelligence

Nowhere does it say to “INSERT” anything into an item’s “SOCKETS”.

The Whisper of Atonement is only used in place of the Legendary Gem required. Rank 125 maximum in Echoing Nightmares.

Blizzard may want to make more money from us. They are  a business after all. But, I doubt forcing you to go play D4 will improve your comprehension skills. (No disrespect intended).

That is only the max rank from Echoing Nightmares. However, Whispers can also be leveled up to rank 150 with Greater Rifts.

Yes, I know. But, relative to the OP, I doubt that they were spending time maxing out Whispers of Atonement to “insert” into their items. And most players, I would think, would level their equipped Legendary Gems to maximum Rank before leveling Whispers of Atonement for augmenting.

(But, I’ll edit my previous post)

my guess would be OP was trying to socket a WoA into a socket, like a gem. After all, it IS classified as a gem. And when you do a GR, it also shows up in your gem overview.

oh, good to know. I didn’t know. :slight_smile:
That’s why they show up in your gem overview at GR, that now makes sense.

I’m still a few lightyears away from that, but wouldn’t you kinda do both in parallel?

Yes. I believe we’ve all figured that out. But, @Rioden stated that:

And I replied that “No. It doesn’t.”  After which I embedded a screenshot of the actual recipe from Kanai’s Cube. I believe @Rioden was remembering the error message that pops up, in red text, when you try to insert a Whisper in a socketed item. But, it doesn’t say it in the “despair” recipe.

I really don’t know what other players do.

It seems to me that skilled, knowledgeable, veteran players would concentrate on leveling their equipped Legendary Gems first. There’s 13 pieces of equipment, not counting the Followers, that can be augmented. And what do we augment with? Mainstat. But, those skilled, knowledgeable, veteran players know that at some point Mainstat has diminishing returns.

I’m not one of those skilled, knowledgeable players. I usually level my equipped Legendary Gems to Rank 90 – 100. Then, I might augment 1 or 2 items using a Rank 125 Whisper of Atonement from Echoing Nightmares. Once I’ve unlocked the Altar and completed the Season Journey, I’m pretty much done for the Season.

Unless the Wisper is a level below the required level of the recipe. I mean, that could happen I guess? lol Different items have different minimum level requirements of the legendary gem or in this case Wisper of Attonement.

Correct.

Item Type Gem Rank (min)
Weapon 30
Jewelry 40
Armor 50

I believe that’s why the Season Journey Conqueror Chapter requires a Rank 50+ augmented item. This covers all three item types.

The Altar asks for an augmented Weapon. So, you really only need a Rank 30 Gem (or Whisper) for that. (Along with a throw-away Ancient Weapon and 3 Flawless Royal Gems. Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby or Topaz).

Seal #24

Personally, I level my 3 base gems to my highest GR clear +1, then worry about augments. It is pretty easy to get 125s and slap them on all your ancient gear, so you really don’t have to worry about leveling augments anyways until you are clearing GR130+.

Others may do things differently, but that is how I do it.

Oh! I missed that tiny detail. Apols.

Thank you for your elaboration, you un-skilled, un-knowledgeable, un-veteran un- play … player.
:wink: :wink:

Just to be clear, I did not say I was not one of the “veteran”  players. Just “not skilled, not knowledgeable”. I AM a veteran. That is, I’ve been playing a LONG time. I just haven’t “learned” anything.

Cheers, mate!
