I have been playing hardcore on a barbarian and was using the LoD HotA in a 99 greater rift. I got to the rift guardian, and it was going well apart from one cheat death. Then all of a sudden about 30% hp left on the boss (when my Ruthless skill should have kicked in) instead of the +40% damage from the Ruthless skill he starts taking almost no damage instead. When I realised, I tried to get away, but the guardian caught and killed me.
I have a recording of the whole greater rift. If this is a bug is there a chance that my character or items can be restored?

No, which is why the warning screen at HC hero creation warns you of this.

Blizzard will not restore dead HC characters for any reason. Even if the death is caused by a legit bug is utterly irrelevant. Those are the terms you accepted on the very moment you created the HC character.

Definitelly weird bug, but tbh - your barbarian was really not ready for this GR level…
I knew the risks going into the Grift as yes it was quite high for my Barb and I had only just been getting used to that build, but I also knew I would probably have finished it if it wasn’t for that bug as I’d just got him to 30% for the extra damage. If it was too much for the Barb then I would have left it way before getting to the Guardian. I’m not that fussed about getting it back I just wanted to know. I’ve levelled a new Barb and am farming again with what I had.
