Broken Crown Broken (Emanates)

There have been some complaints about the Broken Crown, but in normal applications it’s always work for me. The problem is with the new feature of “emanation.”

Note: my complaint can be said to be academic because of the feature of gem type conversion using the, “Essence of [gem type]” available from Squirt the Peddler in Act II.
Nevertheless…

The characteristic of the emanation feature is that the legendary effect of the emanating item is transferred to the character. In the case of the Broken Crown, this is undesirable. With my Follower wearing the Crown, it doesn’t matter what gem is socketed into it, the kind that drops is always the kind that is socketed into my character’s helmet. And that always has to be the Flawless Royal Diamond. Without this gem, I don’t have the CDR necessary to make my build functional. But I can’t use this gem to Augment anything, and once you have 24 Flawless Royal Diamonds, even hard-core, you just don’t need any more.

This design makes the Broken Crown still useless, except for during Bounties, when I don the crown before opening the Act Boss’s Diabolic Hoard. Since that chest usually drops a large number of gems, it’s possible to quickly amass the number of gems of the type you need to augment items.

It sounds like a small issue, though I agree it should be changed. In the end, that’s what the dust or whatever is for to transfer gems to a different type. It’s a small problem with an easy solution, even if it’s a bit inconvenient. Upgrade the gems as much as possible then change them.

I brought this up during PTR but was shut down because “you can convert them” and “its working as intended”

Well, I think it would work better if it used the gem in the follower helm, since THEY are the ones wearing it. Its just triggered when gems drop. But alas, there must be some obscure coding reason why they didn’t do it that way I’m guessing.

Oh well.

Think of the follower emanating something the same as if it were in Kanai’s cube. If you cube Broken Crown, the gem you are wearing in your helm is always the type of gem that drops extra of. Think of emanating powers as extra cube powers.

Well aware of that.

But its a QoL thing that makes more sense for the crown to work in a better way.

More to the point, the power is having it drop a gem when a gem drops. It could be coded to use what is in the helm, rather than what the character has if they wanted to.

The follower emanating the power means you’ll get extra gems when doing Bounties, Nephalem Rifts, Not The Cow Level and, most importantly, The Vault which is chock full of goblins, some of which will drop loads of gems. How is getting double the amount of gem drops considered useless especially when, as you mention, you can already convert them nine at a time in the Cube? Heck, the follower’s even going to be wearing Sage’s + Cain’s, so it’s not like you’re going to be short of DBs for the conversion when you’re looking at 8 DBs per elite pack at T16.

Emanate is essentially just making the follower into an ambulatory Cube power carrier and they work the same way, i.e. if you’d cubed the helm, the extra gems dropped would match your hero’s helm gem.

I would imagine they re-utilised the code that grants the hero cubed powers rather than code something completely from scratch.

you can change 9 gems into another color. with the double drops, you’ll have more than enough to cube the right ones.

Yeah I didn’t exactly mean useless there. I meant less convenient to use than it could have been.

You can just farm up the diamond, once you have heaps just upgrade them to 9 flawless royals, use kanais cube with essence of what gem you want and change-o-presto…

Again, stating the obvious.

Obvious.

And again.

You all are missing the point though.

At least Stone gets it.

If I didn’t know any better, some of you are adverse to a small QoL that would have made things simpler. If they are already making those types of changes, how hard could it have been?

Of course it was probably easier to rework some existing coding that made them work similar to cubed powers. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done a different way.

I bloody well know how to work around it. Just pointing out that we didn’t have to if it was setup different. So stating the obvious is not going to change my mind about how I feel about it, regardless how “easy” it is to deal with. Why do we need to deal with it in the first place?

Game on.

Did you know almost everything you do drops gems? Rifts, grs, bounties give abit more and bosses give a lot because it’s relative to time spent.
1-2 mins in grs, 1-2 mins in rifts, 5-10 mins in bounty acts.
I know it’s annoying that the type of gem you put in the helm only applies to you on your character, most people high end will be using ruby, early on I’ll be using emerald for gold and then ruby
Edit

It is working as intended however, your follower isn’t getting extra keys from Cain’s or extra dbs when it kills a target so why would broken crown apply it’s gem in the follower

It probably counts as drops that come from a kill or a chest opening. And the Follower ain’t doing either.

Wow! Congrats on a new low :+1:

More likely it was a copypasta of the original code that wasn’t modified to be follower specific.

just convert the gems with the act 2 dust. Problem solved.

Then you simply eliminate the whole Emanate system they put on it/

Step 1: Create a GoD fast build
Step 2: Equip a Broken Crown with whatever gem with it
Step 3: Use a rorg in your cube
Step 4: Profit.

How hard is that, OP?

Doesn’t solve the problem for people, who are playing and Caldessaning multiple character classes. Also doesn’t work in the start of the season, because you literally don’t have the gems yet.
The whole purpose of the Broken Crown is to farm Regular Rifts, Bounties, Cow Levels, Vaults (esp Ancient) and even some Whimsy land with it at the very start of the season on T16. You won’t use it like 3 weeks into the season anymore. You need to farm the Rifts to get your GR keys anyway. So you use your Broken Crown with your speed farming builds only.

Most people are level 70 in a couple hours of seasonal start and doing GR70 by the end of the day. So - you’re complaint - is that’s not fast enough… Let my play the worlds smallest violin for you.
