im not sure if its confirmed/denied whether sets will be returning, but I hope they will! It is really cool the way sets tend to change the way you play.
I think itâs interesting that I pretty much disagree with everything you have posted in the past week haha. But Iâm sure Iâd like you anyway.
I think it comes down to two completely different player bases both looking for a similar kind of game in D4. The D2 and D3 people.
Lets come up with more ideas on how we can lock in the best build per season and entirely rid diversity of builds.
Sets⌠check
Rune words⌠check
What else do you have lined up?
No thank you. Sets lock x item slots and thus limits choice. Whatever it is that you think only sets can offer can and should in fact be offered by specific items instead, or talent/paragon points. Minus the ridiculous multipliers ofc, the last thing we want is for D4 to turn into a clownfiesta like its predecessor.
Sets are fine, in theory. As long as they are 2-3 pieces and do not swamp gameplay.
That is true, I was working under the assumption that OP wanted the D3 kind of sets back, which is a no go for me.
i think sets are fine as long as you arent forced to play with them, and the numbers arent too extreme.
I can agree with that. So long as sets arenât handled like D3 (offer massive power and restricting playstyle), then I think they could be in D4.
More like pigeonhole you into one way to play. Sets were the worst thing to happen to diablo. If we are going back towards being more like D2 I hope to God that means sets never come back to being the main way to gear.
Sets should be purely cosmetic. Something you hunt and collect for fun.
Donât worry. Set item made a huge comeback in D3 RoS as well. So this will be the same for D4 where set items will eventually come to D4.
P.S. DI Immortal team used to said that there wonât be a set item in DI but quickly U-Turn the decision later and made set item better than ever.
i dont mind sets just no stupid 10000000% damage bonuses
I feel like this is a no-win situation. There will always, ALWAYS be BiS items. If itâs not a set, itâs a runeword, or a unique, or a high stat rare like back in the RMAH days. If youâre someone that doesnât like the meta builds, donât do them. If your only concern is pushing your character to a 0.001% additional bit of damage via the meta, then do it.
Nobody is forced to run shako / enigma / cta in D2, nobody is forced to run Firebirds or RRoG in D3, and you wonât be forced to wear whatever takes their places in D4.
I vote that there be a bloody TON of sets, runewords, uniques, gems, etc. Flood the gear slots with so much viable gear that it creates the freedom of diversity while still allowing for a meta as well.
Or, ya know, keep screeching about how itâll ruin the game as if your experience is the universal experience that all other players will share. Do what youâre gonna do, Iâm not your dad⌠probably.
We had this topic here only recently.
Sets are not uninteresting in themselves. But they have a very difficult stand in the game and wrongly introduced, rather a destructive factor on many levels.
Sets in the low to mid-game range, are certainly an enrichment if they do not get out of hand and consist of rather fewer set parts, but in the later course of the game they become rather harmful to the game, at least this kind of game here.
This is also true for rune words, see D2R.
Sets as well as rune words unfortunately have a certain power in them to undermine the game itself and put the focus on themselves.
They are like flight mounts in light. Flight mounts mean opening Pandoraâs box. Sets and runes also have this potential in the light version and are very quickly devastating.
Since Diablo 4 is always in danger of becoming an 0815 end-game grinder, you should be very careful not to unhinge the game itself and make it meaningless, which would quickly kill the game. Because weâre all basically over-saturated with end-game games and theyâre not much good either, because otherwise they donât offer any content other than the same old numbers junk and the well-known spiral into nothingness, with all the consequences like overload, competition, com destruction and killing the actual game etcâŚ
If only that those set haters are reasonable as you do. They blamed set item for limiting build and option but in reality, even if the game removed set item, the next best thing will replace BiS slot immediately. ![]()
The problem is having multiple âSpecialâ Items all attempting to do the same thing. For D3 the only way to really make Sets different from legendary items was to give them huge % bonuses together. This is probably why they scrapped them from D4 for now. They couldnât find a way to make them feel significant enough to use in builds, same with Runewords, without making other items feel less. They couldnât find a balance.
I think D4 could offer a mix of D2/3 Sets. Each piece would give you a stat bonus like D2, but an interesting effect that activates with only two pieces. This effect could be a one off or get better with more pieces. This improved effect can also be balanced to not require every piece to be at full power.
An example I like to use-
4p Barbarian Set - Focuses on the Arsenal system. Each piece is a different weapon.
The effect would be âWhen using an attack with this set, the next attack used with a different set piece will have its effect boosted by 10%â (This effect could be taken as boosting damage or it could be balanced to only increase any effects excluding damage on a skill.) (Also this effect could go from 10 to 20% with 3 pieces. Meaning to get the full effect only 3 pieces would be needed. Or you could simply have it at full effect with 2 pieces. Since the effect is only active when using a skill attached to another set piece.)
Each piece would grant a new bonus. (These are all Placeholder Bonuses, They could be anything.)
- 2p +100 Strength
- 3P +10% attack speed
- 4P +10% Lucky Hit Chance
Sets would also roll with random affixes on the items themselves similar to legendary items. The amount could be balanced (2-3). I believe this would be one of a few balanced ways to introduce sets that would still allow them to be useful at different levels of gameplay without making other items completely irrelevant.
OP, its like youâve been out of the loop for the last 5-10 years on the on-going discussion about the pitfalls of particularly D3 sets.
If you like âhow they change the way you playâ that is already covered with legendary and uniques in D4. So, what else was it that is appealing to you about sets?
Do sets in D3 limit build options. I would say so even if a couple BiS legendaryâs would take some of those newly opened slots.
There would still be more variety and options (as long as the developers provide enough legendaryâs) if only legendaryâs were used for every slot that a set would have taken. Doesnât matter if it turns out that 1 or 2 legendaryâs become BiS for say chest or gloves if it means that boots, helm, or whatever other open slot from not using sets have if it provides an additional 5 options each - because if there is a clearly defined BiS for each slot so that you essentially just have a 6 piece âlegendary-setâ then the devs just wouldnât be doing their jobs right.
You can see LoN/LoD builds example in D3 where most of them using the same legendaries for each slot.
Players will always find the BiS, with or without Set Item.
The game developers discussed this in their last video blog. You donât watch these I assume?
They will bring sets back in a future update to the game.
Apparently they need more time to properly balance them with other gearing methods (So I assume).
Yes they want to make it roght for D4. I realy wish they will be a combo of D2 an D:I sets. More generalized like in D:I, but take up less slots, and have aditional partial bonuses like in D2, so you donât have to wear all pieces, to make your build good still, and not generaly be the BiS.
