Bring back Matt Uelman

His music is the essence of this franchise. Without him D4 is not a Diablo game. Sorry Blizz, it’s the truth.

Who cares about the F****** music. GAME CORE is important, i don’t play a game for his music.

100% agree. Matt Uelmen did an outstanding job. Diablo 2 has one of the best soundtracks ever created. If Blizzard don’t plan to hire him for D4, at least take inspiration from his work.

@XanderK5 Not all players lack aesthetic sense. The soundtrack, art style, story and characters are the core of the game’s presentation or “soul”.

Totally agree on that. Diablo 2 music is so much better than that of Diablo 3. Most of the background music in D3 made me fall asleep, so I even had to turn it off.

Diablo3 music was better than Diablo 2. I guess we cant argue about tastes.

Diablo 3 had some great music too like “I am justice”, “Chains of fate”, “A new dawn” and “Caldeum”. Anyone who says that the entirety of D3 soundtrack is bad should listen to them. The thing is that 2 of those are in cinematics, 1 is in boss fight and only “Caldeum” is ambient music. The most ambient tracks in D3 are very forgettable. Correct me if I’m wrong.

On the other hand Act 1 and Act 2 in D2 had zones with fantastic ambient music such as Act 1 “Tristram”, “Wilderness”, “Rogue Encampment”, “Cave” and Act 2 “Lut Gholein” and “Desert”. Those are my personal favorites. You hear them a lot while playing, they fit the Diablo universe perfectly and are very memorable. The melancholic guitar and the uncommon and even evil sounding drum rhythms really fit like a glove.

I think Diablo 4 can take the best from both worlds. Make the ambient music like D2 and use big epic orchestra music for the cinematics/boss battles.

“and use big epic orchestra music for the cinematics/boss battles”

I strongly and respectfully disagree. Epicness is what has killed diablo 3.
Epicness, greatness, bigness is what make video games look like final fantasy fest with wings, super heroes and powers.

Diablo is about humble and unknown individuals who have their own doubts and weaknesses. Yet with their will, they overcome death.

Classical music as orchestra is too recent in the history line.

Epicness, badassness is like sugar and fat. If you put sugar and fat in your main course, then you need even more of it the dessert.

Whilst I agree that Matt Uelman’s music is the sound of Diablo much like Frank Klepacki’s music is the sound of Command and Conquer and Brad Fiedel’s music is the sound of The Terminator, I think the most important question is…

Does he want to come back to the Diablo franchise?

The result won’t be good if his entire heart’s not in it.

Yes, this is what I actually meant. The ambient music. Of course there are some good tracks within the D3 soundtrack as well.

I agree that epicness shouldn’t be present in the most part, but there are some moments, like Tyrael’s sacrifice in D3, when the big epic chorus of “I am justice” fits perfectly. I think only very impactful moments of the story should be presented by big orchestra music though. It’s perfect for giving an emotional response in the player in that key moment, but too much of it can ruin the overall atmosphere.

By the way, there was some orchestra music in D2 LoD too like the Main Menu theme and Harrogath theme( which is simply beatiful).

I personally think the d2 Vanilla music menu fits the game way better than Lod music menu. When you start d2 for the first time this is what you hear:

Yes d2 act 5 is classical music. It sounds ok and rater fit the content. But I think it’s not as good. They had only 1 year to prepare the extension and I think it partly explains this choice.

Go play Diablo 1 for a while. If you don’t like it, this franchise isn’t for you.

Like good and evil, yin and yang, harmony and balance… the masterpieces that Uelman created define the heart and soul of this franchise, the quintessential tracks Tristram and Leoric. It is quite unbelievable that the main theme of Diablo (ie D1 main menu, D2 Leoric) is missing from D3. Blizz failing to recognize this and not using this theme in D3 speaks volumes of their artistic deficiency. They can not afford to make the same mistake in D4. #bringbackUelman

Diablo 4 cinematic soundtrack is pretty cool.

Why exactly do you guys want Matt Uelman back. Why can’t they do dark, gloomy and horror music by a different composer?

Matt Uelmen yes but especially the non orchestral music from Act 1 to 4. All the authentic sounding folk instruments made you feel as if you were there in Rogue Encampment or Lut Gohlein etc… I think the immersion you get such is that is a very important part of the game. Brilliant.

Fond memories of the orchestral theme of Harrogath too.

Diablo 2 shows the reality is its brutality, but also in its beauty.
And music translates it.
The franchise is not only about gore and horror. It’s about showing authenticity without filter. And Matt Uelmen translates it in its complexity through a range of different specific instruments and voices.

It’s not only about putting a horror music for zone 1 and a oriental music for act zone2. It’s also about quality, the melody.

I noticed in all the Blizzcon panels and such music was never a topic, that I recall.

With no Matt Uelmen I already know the music in D4 will not be as good as in D2.

Matt Uelman’s music is ICONIC. Ironically that is why torchlight 1 and 2 felt like the sucessor to D1 and D2. If you ever played those games his music style was evident, which gave it a diablo like ambience. Especially when you entered dungeons.

Will they bring him back. Of course not. This company thinks everything about D1 and D2 was garbage and needed to be redone BIGGER AND BETTER wow style. AREN’T YOU THANKFUL??? Do you not have Cellphones???
