Breaking News Source?

When starting a game there is sometimes a notification on the right-hand side about “Breaking News”

However, my computer loads so fast that the message is only fleeting.

Where else can I go to see these messages?

It’s tiresome having to reload the game multiples time in order to know what it says.

Those are the Maintence or service annoucements. When they can, they post them ahead of time so that you know to expect down time. Sometimes they also post if there is an active incident like a DDOS attack.

You can view them in the Battlenet Launcher.

For individual game maitence click the game tab then over the usual news window is a Breaking news bar. Hover over it and read. For Battlenet as a whole, there is a yellow triangle with exclamation point at the top of the app.

They also USUALLY have the Breaking News on the Support website at the very top but I don’t see it for this one. Blizzard Support

The current message says something to the effect that Bnet will be down for all games and services including the Shop from 6am Monday Aug 30th until around 12PM. Times are of course estimated and can be extended.

They are doing some database work from what little I know. The work was also going on yesterday and the movement of database files behind the scenes was causing some accounts to be kicked and flagged as having their personal data changed! Pretty big yikes, but Customer Support checked it out and the flags were due to Maint, not malicious access. Whatever database work they are doing is probably prep for Monday.

The Battle.net app has breaking news at the very top of the window. It might take a few seconds for it to load, but once it does you’ll see a :warning: icon there which you can hover over or click to view alerts.

Neither do I, but those of us that play on EU sometimes don’t get the same announcements / notifications that those playing on The Americas do, so I assumed it might have been due a US-only downtime.

Upload the image to a free hosting site (e.g. imgur) and then…

  1. Copy the URL to the clipboard
  2. Paste the URL into your forum post
  3. Highlight the URL in your post
  4. Click the </> button in the editor
  5. This will turn your URL into pre-formatted text
  6. Whilst not clickable, the URL will be properly formatted so others can copy / paste it like this… http://www.ThisIsAnExample.com/HowToMakeLinks.htm
