Boyarsky's Chip + Bane of the Powerful

Simple Question. If Boyarsky’s Chip plus Hack give me 75,000 Thorns damage per hit, What effect doe a LG multiplier LIKE BoP have on the actual damage.

First, BoP is only an example here. There are lots of damage multipliers in the game. So, please, discuss this with general damage multiplier consideration.

Yes, choosing BC means NOT choosing a different multiplier LG. I understand this so that is not my question.

I’ve read that Thorns become less valuable at higher rifts. I’ve noticed that my Barb and Crusader seem to max out at ceilings. But I question this.

If a weapon or skill gives AA damage and a multiplier at 20% increase those to AA + 20% = 120%AA, then isn’t Thorns a weapon or skill that should have the same effect?

If it does than increasing weapon damage from 2000 to 2500 would be a whole lot less than increasing Thorns from 15,000 to 75,000 via Boyarsky’s Chip.

My understanding about multipliers is that they are based on the relevant damage of the underlying weapons and skills. If they don’t increase, there isn’t much change except in increasing (leveling up) the multipliers. Boyarsky’s Chip can drastically increase the base damage of a build.

I really don’t know how to research this and would appreciate knowledgeable comments.

This old guide explains most everything thorns related.

This build is outdated and weak compared to the standard builds. It can still be a fun build just for kicks…

Wow! It’s an awesome build guide and at 116 pages there’s more than I can read in a week.

I did read the section detailing Boyarsky’s Chip and Bane of the Stricken. Here it is.

With a rank 80 Stricken you deal 1.6% more damage every swing and with this build it usually stacks at a 7.5-8.57 swings per second rate (even 10 swings per second are achievable) and every single swing adds Thorns. Other Frenzy builds aren´t capable of producing such results cumulatively (survivability + uptime on cooldowns + fast attack speed) because they have to stack Crit Chance and Crit Damage.

What I understand from this is an 80 BotS gives an additional 1.6% damage per swing. It stacks or increases by that same amount on each successive set of swings that trigger it (something to do with Frames Per Second) but I’ll think of it as per swing. So after 5 swings its adding 8% damage to the swing. If I’m using Hack and each swing applies 100% of my thorns than I can increase damage by either increasing BotS or Thorns.

At L80 BotS is adding 1.6%. At L 80 BC is applying 80,000 damage. Increasing either by 5 levels results in BotS = 1.65% and BC = 84,000.

Hits BotS BC Damage
1 1.70% 80,000 81,360
2 3.40% 80,000 82,720
3 10.20% 80,000 88,160
4 40.80% 80,000 112,640
5 204.00% 80,000 243,200
608,080
1 1.65% 84,000 85,386
2 3.30% 84,000 86,772
3 9.90% 84,000 92,316
4 39.60% 84,000 117,264
5 198.00% 84,000 250,320
632,058
632,058 / 608,080 = 1.039432312 or 3.94%

3.94% greater damage with BC.

So adding 5 levels to BC gives a greater damage total over 5 hits than adding 5 levels to BotS.

If I’m correct in my understanding I appreciate the help. This clears things up for me. It’s still best to level all gems to their max.

The % of BotS are incorrect.
At hit 3, the % is 1.7% * 3 = 5.1%, not 10.2%
etc.
