During the bounty “The Hive : Destroy the remaining hive clusters” in Act V Battlefields of Eternity the player character can’t damage the hive clusters with direct attacks in solo play.
The wolf companion and Templar are able to deal damage to the hive cluster, while the player character (demon hunter) can’t. I am able to damage and kill the spawning enemies however.
I swapped an ability to “Sentry”, and that was, just like the companion, able to damage the clusters.

I’ve never had an issue with it either. I have noticed that if I don’t have a good line-of-fire on the Hive I will not do any damage to them. But, if I reposition myself I can destroy them.
The hive has 3 attack points separated by the rock outcrops. You have to attack all 3 sections to destroy it. In the video, it looks like you destroyed the right side, then attacked the middle section, but then stopped when it did not take any more damage. If you re-watch the video you will notice your wolf doing damage to the left side. If you had moved over there and joined him, you could have destroyed that side, then the center.
In TimberWolf’s video, you can see them attack all 3 sections.
When one section stops taking damage, you need to move to another side of the hive until you destroy all 3 areas. Then you can destroy the rear section and the boss will spawn and you can kill her.
This is the way the bounty was designed, and is not a bug.
I know the wolf is doing damage to the leftmost section, but the Templar is damaging the middle section at the same time.
Here’s a new video I recorded. As you can see I removed my follower and companion so that I am the only one able to damage the hives. Notice how Multishot and Evasive Fire does nothing to them, while the rockets and side cannons from vengeance deal damage (towards end of the video).
Maybe I’m misunderstanding something, but I really can’t get Multishot to damage the hives.
OK, this is interesting. I looked at your profile, and saw that you were using the Broadside rune for MS. I retested it, and was able to replicate the bug. I was using Arsenal before, and it was the rockets that was destroying the Hives, not the multishot itself.
Here is the video. The only thing doing the damage was the Vengeance rockets. When I was off Vengeance, I was doing no damage, neither from MS or from Evasive Fire. That seems to suggest that non-projectile attacks don’t work.
That’s exactly what I experienced! I thought I was going crazy being the only one having this problem.
Nice thinking with the non-projectiles theory. When swapping to sentry in the original post I distinctly remember choosing the first rune which just so happens to fire rockets. Maybe that’s why the sentry could damage the hive.
