I was removed from a group for turning in bounties while the last few were being finished up. Normally I help with any remaining bounties, but I had dc’d twice earlier and didnt want to risk my HC toon by teleporting to someone. I began turning in the finished bounties to speed up the process. Two players complained about it saying their bags were full. I agreed not to turn any more in, but was kicked regardless.
I pm’d the person I figured started the vote and asked how in the world his bags were so full doing bounties. This person replied saying their bag was full from picking up whites and blues. I said you shouldn’t be taking the time during bounties to pick up every blue and white, do that on your own time in neph rifts.
I had completed 8 bounties, a DH in the grp was moving faster than me, so I’m guessing he did 8-10 himself. That means the two people who were mad at me did less than two acts combined.
So my question to the community is: am I in the wrong here? If so, I’ll own it and not turn any bounties in early in the future. I feel like a player who picks up every white and blue is getting carried by the other players and not doing their fair share. While I cant say for sure if that’s a strategy they use (have other people do bounties for you while you collect whites) I wouldn’t be surprised
Imo, I would say you’re not really in the wrong; as I can’t imagine why anyone would be picking up white and blue items during bounties. If it’s for the mats, then it’s still a waste as the bounty caches drop plenty of crafting mats.
I suppose in the future, you could tell your party that you’re going to turn in the bounties in order to give them some time to clear their inventory. But beyond that I don’t see that you’re in the wrong, as again, it’s normally imperative to have space in your inventory when running bounties with some exceptions of course.
Most public bounties I’ve played, the caches are collected after all five acts are completed. I just followed suit and haven’t had any problems being kicked.
Lazy bots dont turn in bountys until the end. Then you risk kick for the bot alt account. Drives me nuts.
Finish your act turn in the bounty. Move on to next act.
Turning in as soon as acts are completed minimises how many caches you would lose out on if you get a disconnect. It also minimises the chances of malfeasance on the part of the other party members whereby they might wait until all five acts have been completed, kick you, invite a friend into the group, then hand in all five quests so their friend gets five caches for no effort, and you get nothing.
If other people’s bags are so full that they can’t take a cache going into it, that’s their issue, not yours. Bounty caches contains sufficiently large numbers of white / blue / yellow materials that picking up loot like that is counterproductive as it means they’re spending time looting they could otherwise be spending doing bounties.
I’d say you turn in as soon as an act’s completed.
I personally wait until the end, but understand why people do it beforehand. In your scenario, I would have announced it to the group and waited a bit before doing it (so they would have time to respond). I always keep room though, even if I picked up some whites/blues for mats, so its their fault for not expecting it, especially in public. Not like they lose out on the cache, it just falls onto the ground where ever they are.
I didn’t turn in once a long time ago. The other players kicked me and invited their friend right before we finished. They laughed in chat and told me what they had done. It has never happened again because I learned my lesson and always turn in my bounty now.
I turn mine in as I collect them, but only the ones I completed. Most of the time do two acts or almost two acts before everyone is finished. I never had an issue being kicked off though.
It’s stupid of him to pick up every piece of trash off the floor and keep it in their inventory until the end. When I’m bountying at the gearing stage of a season, my pack fills up after 2-3 bounties. I run to town for a second to salvage and then I’m back again. Noone’s gonna boot him for TP’ing to town for 5 seconds to salvage.
And if you had such issues, you could’ve simply said so in the chat to warn them ahead of time. Generally, picking up caches early is a BOT move.
No, you’re not wrong. Three times I left all five caches until the end only to DC before collecting. Of course I lost them all and wasted all that work. Collect as soon as you can. If others are leaving them I will port to each place and collect them up. Haven’t had an issue with players objecting to that yet, especially after explaining the potential for DCing, but there’s always a first time. A couple of times other players said they never DCd, but I just reply “Famous Last Words.”
Bad luck? I’ve done thousands of bounties and for the majority I turn in immediately in case of disconnect and never been kicked for doing it. As my rule of thumb, when doing a bounty I make sure I have room in my inventory. If not and I lose a cache because someone turned in… well that’s on me.
Agree with you Olympus. I turn in the act I finish immediately. Then I go on to the act that has not been started. (I play DH so I am generally among the fastest players). Also before I begin bounties, I clear out my cache so I don’t fill up. And I really only pick up Legendaries, DBs, and stackable mats.
I always take the bounty cache as fast as possible. Why? Because I am afraid that I may experience a sudden blackout in my home, PC crashed, or got kicked by trolls.
I always claim the bounty as as soon as I complete an Act mainly because of dc issues, provided I’m in a full group. Lately people are dropping like flies in Pub groups - it has not happened to me so far - but at least the other members of my group can still get the cache before they’re hit.
I hear complaints from both camps (turn in right away or at the end). So, do as you please with regard when to turn in caches. Though, I’m not consistent myself on it anymore. I used to turn in the act I completed and then helped finish all the rest of the bounties. Now I use some discretion. If someone trips a bandit shrine or kills a gel sire gob, then I usually wait until the end to turn in caches. Also if double bounties are active.
Really, I agree with you that people shouldn’t be farming base mats during bounties. I might do so on occasion myself, but I work on keeping my bags fairly empty. Usually consists of collecting yellows until I complete an act and then quick run to town and salvage and right back to bounties.
If nothing else, warn them in chat, “Incoming” when turning in caches. Especially if bandit shrines and gel sire gobs have been encountered.
I find nothing wrong with what you have done, however, I have noticed some other things occur publicly that may have contributed to you being kicked. If we all had the identical game methodology, yes it would be simpler, but we do not.
First, some clans play publicly instead of starting a game and inviting their clan members into it. This means that you may have jumped in where one of their clan members were intended to appear.
Second, some people hold off collecting to see if a player that has joined is a robot (bot) cheater.
Both methods suck for someone honest who had no choice in who their public team members were, but it happens.
I don’t understand why people would turn in because of being afraid of DC or something. Getting 4 caches is no different from getting 0 caches. Because you are missing one of the 5 bounty mats, so you can’t reforge gear anyway. Don’t tell me you come to bounties for getting other mats like breaths and souls. It either 5 caches or 0 caches.
I will turn in after all quests are done. So no one lose anything.
