Blizzcon concept art "The Hunter"

Some of the concept art showed a female Hunter with a bow, she looked more like a D&D Ranger, nothing like the current Demon Hunter. Would you be happy with an outdoor Ranger type class that uses a bow and traps? I will post a photo if I locate one.

Update: see the link below from Morgan with the art. :+1::+1:

Probably more or less - Be nice to see the class be able to use other weapons as well. Dexterity = Finesse warrior, Bows, swords, shields, daggers and spears/javelins.

I’ll be fine with any dex/finesse rogue/ranger/hunter/archer type, AS LONG AS there are no obligatory pets/animal companions, the bane of rangers everywhere.

Would be nice to see throwing spears/javelins. Bows and traps maybe, bows yes, traps would have to see how the mechanics are. Seems traps right now kind of suck.

If they decide on a ranger like character I hope they don’t restrict it to using only ranged attacks.

They showed the arsenal system used on the barbarian for using multiple types of weapons, there could also be one where the hunter carries both a bow/crossbow and two swords/axes for using in different abilities.

Then he could have 3 “styles” as the classes in D2 with bows, melee and traps.

Is this the concept art you’re referring to, Avalon?

I really hope they go with a hunter or a rogue class. While Amazon was my second favorite in D2 but I don’t know how they will work it so you can be male given the lore.

Also Hunter/Rouge just seem to fit better to me.

Yes. :kiss::kiss::kiss::kiss: Great job. :+1::+1::+1::+1:

It looks like she has a long bow and dagger. :bow_and_arrow::dagger:

I would like a ranged character that laso use melee weapons. Like it was said above, it could use something like the arsenal system.

Similar to the Arsenal system:

  • It could make the battle more fluid. For a character that use melee and ranged weapons they could give 2 functions to the skills. If the player is at some distance of the enemies it will use the ranged weapon and the ranged function of the skill, if the character is close to the enemy it would use the melee weapon and the melee function of the skill.

The other idea i have for some amazon type of character is to have a skill that comes with the character that allows to switch weapons.

Switch Weapons would work like this:

  • At the equipment window it would look like the arsenal of the barbarian. Equip melee (2h weapon, 2 1h, 1h and shield) weapons in the main slots and a ranged weapon (can be bow, xbow, javelins, throwing axes or what ever) and arrows/bolts in the secondary (if the weapon use them).

  • You can add the switch weapons skill to the quick bar (this will take one slot ofc). This is optional, if the player want to use only melee or only ranged weapons, they don’t need to use the skill.

  • Now equip the skills for that type of weapon.

  • Once you have all set, if use the switch weapons, it change to the ranged weapon but also the skills change to the ranged ones.

With this system you lose 1 slot of your quick bar but in reality you can use more skills than any class: 10 (5 melee and 5 ranged) + the switch weapon vs the 6 of the other classes).

Glad to be of help!

As much as I love the design of the D3 demon hunter, I think I like this hunter concept even more. It seems more naturalistic, perhaps a bit more grounded? Duel-wielding crossbows in booty shorts and heeled boots is obviously bad*ss but I like that the D4 hunter seems a bit more rugged and practical. I hope that knife isn’t just for show either. Being able to switch between bow and knife throwing skills would be a hoot.

Very true, they seem to be going more with a “realistic” approach this time, which should work well. It appears that the movement speed has been toned down and the crazy numbers might be gone. Hitting a demon for 427 damage vs 27 trillion is much better.

woooow looks niiiiiiiice
id love a nature style hunter

Nice find.
I figured it was gonna be Rogue both because it’s a gender neutral title unlike Amazon but also for D1 fan cred, but I guess Hunter works too.

Sounds boring-af, a major downgrade from the DH.

because everything has to be an edgy emokid?

As much as I love playing Demon Hunter, I always found that it needed a bigger emphasis on traps (no thanks to the M6 redesign either).

I hope this hunter/ranger/rogue class (if legit), strikes a balance between ranged attacks, close quarter melee/stabbing skills, and traps. A dose of spear skills would be welcome too.

i think thats totally possible
3 types of active skills would be a pretty common number and the talent tree could also be split into 3 just like the sorc

If this Ranger type is a D4 class, I would like to see Shock Web from D2LoD make a return.

I loved watching the lower level trash mobs walking into this and get obliterated.
