Blizzard loses another one

Dave Kosak, who moved from WoW to Hearthstone in 2016, announced on Twitter he’s leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 12 years.

Dave, also known as “Fargo,” was the Lead Narrative Designer for World of Warcraft before becoming a member of the Hearthstone team.

Recently, he announced he’s leaving Blizzard Entertainment.

Did he have anything to do with Diablo? If not, why would it matter to the Diablo community?

With all that experience with the best company in the industry he will be able to write his own ticket.

Good for him, I wish him well.

Says it has nothing to do with Diablo yet he embeds a tweet about that and makes a new thread like this Activision Blizzard Q3 earnings call, Oct 29th

Avalon trying to annoy people as usual.

Yup, it’s certainly a thing that happens.

Just a bit but not too much. Both speak about the state of the company developing it.

Anyway, the issue is not that reason alone.

I honestly don’t know anything about Hearthstone, but from 2010 to 2020 WoW has gotten worse and worse. Maybe he wasn’t allowed to do that to Hearthstone and they forced him to leave.

People can cry about D3 all they want, but I am still playing D3 and I haven’t played a second of WoW since February this year.

Granted, I’ve take WoW breaks, but I always came back for more. Of course each time I was disappointed, but there was always something to do in the game that was fun. Unfortunately, the fun dwindled to no fun at all.

Him not touching D3? THANK YOU!

on an unrelated note but “Thrall” LIVES

On a WoW forum they are all acting like he’s a tremendous loss. Those same people were cursing his name during MoP calling him a hack.

Not unrelated! I saw that today too. He has always had a passion for tabletop games, as did a lot of the old school Blizz staff. So glad he is feeling well enough now to venture back into the world of work. Hopefully having a small company of his own focused on something he really loves is healing for him and not too stressful.

We now have quite a few new companies by senior former Blizz staff.

Bonfire and Second Dinner have been around a while and have projects in the works. The others are all new annoucements as of this year.

if Warchief is planning to do table top D&D style gaming they should reach out to Kojima and try to sub license their gaming rules for consoles i mean itd be a win win for both because Kojima productions would do the “heavy lifting” of adapting it into a video game and Warchief could consult and collect royalties for allowing them to use their IP

Now that was hilarious.

I’m more excited about the news that Metzen is back. I don’t know what he’s up to, but I’m gonna keep an eye on that.

The WoW forums also have a habit of calling virtually any developer they know the name of a hack who is ruining the game.

16 years later and people still blame Tigole and Furor for the state of hybrid classes in Classic despite the fact that one was a world designer and the other was a quest designer and neither had a hand in class design.

correction: ACTIVISION loses another one

There are only a very few amount of people that will stay with a company for many long decades. So what he has done isn’t so strange. You will probably find a lot of ones like him. Plus like others have no doubt said if he hasn’t done anything for the Diablo franchise then I fail to see the reason it is mentioned here in the general thread. This would be better in the games and technology section of the forums.

actually its Blizzard that loses or did you really think for a moment that Activision will do anything that is detrimental to their projects? the loss of staff will only cause problems for the development of Blizzard related works

make no mistake but Bobby would allow Activision to pull any staff from the Blizzard crew to keep the next CoD title on track but if parts of the next content patch or any of the other Blizzard IPs were in peril of not reaching the deadline he will just sit on his yacht drinking and do nothing

Hopefully Dreamhaven will pick him up.

hes already been poached by a company called Deviation Games

Fargo from Planet Quake! He was one of the original web personalities. Back before there was FaceTok and Twittube, you needed to actually have your own web servers and be a webmaster. I don’t know how good he was as a game developer, but he was a great web celeb back in the day.
