Big Stinker Question

I am using the Big Stinker rune but I have a question about it. It is a Poison rune.

The skill says “Summon a Gargantuan zombie to fight for you. The Gargantuan attacks for 450% of your weapon damage as Physical. The Gargantuan is surrounded by a poison cloud that deals 135% weapon damage as Poison per second to nearby enemies.”

So my question is, does the gargantuan do physical damage with its attack even though it is a poison rune?

Now your Gargs deal Poison damage (and only Poison damage), that’s how runes work.

So even though it says they deal Physical damage, it’s Poison damage?

The damage you apply/deliver (Sorry for the trad) is based on the rune you use.

In your case, Big Stinker. So your Gargs deal Poison damage

So when the skill icon says the Gargs deal Physical damage, it’s just trying to trick me?

Someone on reddit says “The pet does an attack on monsters. That attack is physical. The rune adds an aoe effect that hurts nearby monsters. That damage is poison.”

Which of you is right?

The rune and its elemental damage will take over.

If you are really interested, play with which Poison, or which Physic, or both, and come back to us later

That the season 33 is over on the… Oh wait…

I am really interested but I don’t wanna test it because I’m stupid, I just want someone to tell me how it works

Elemental damage: poison

It’s okay?

Like how CRs work?

The description for the skill is for the unruned skill. The runes apply a specific element.
Big Stinker will do 450% damage as Poison when it hits plus the additional Poison aura.

So even though with the poison rune selected and it says it does physical damage, it will do poison damage?

Idk what you mean

I’m not sure how one would go about testing it since the Garg damage is difficult to see.
It is possible that the Redditor is correct, but I don’t see how much difference it would really make in combat.
I prefer Humongoid or Restless Giant runes myself.

Because my build is Poison only and if they deal Physical attack damage then I’m missing out on a lot of damage

I feel like this should be something we know in 2025

Just a gratuitous provocation.

With the Big Stinker rune , your Gargs deal Poison damage.
I don’t know how to say it more simply.

I think you may be stuck with it. I don’t see any replacement skill that would be as strong as Garg w/ Short Man.
Especially once you raise Enforcer gem.
You may just have to accept that Gargs and Dogs do Physical damage in addition to Poison, if that is indeed the case.

But the poison damage remains the most important (in this case)

Wait, the poison rune dog does physical damage too??

That’s what the skill description says. Just like Stinker.
You might also consider swapping Trapped for Toxin since you are not doing much CC.
The problem with All-Poison builds is that it is all DOT and not much direct damage. The Physical gives a little of that.

It isn’t a “poison” build, it’s a poison element zombie bear zombie dog gargantuan pet build. I need trapped for damage.

Okay it appears the dogs and garg do poison damage with the poison rune selected even if the tooltip says physical damage, I was given a source from maxroll that says this.

The Big Stinker Rune changes the Gargantuan’s physical melee attack to poison damage.

i am the absolute Witch Doctor authority. I am not wrong, ever. Just once, but never any other time in my life.

Yes apparently this is true. Idk why the tooltip still says they do physical damage (or why they specify it is physical damage)
