Been gone a year and

… I’m digging the changes I’m seeing.

OK, full disclosure. I’m very drunk. Playing a seasonal HC DH because that’s my thing when I’ve played D3 (duh! why aren’t you drunk playing this game?) … I’m pretty sure when I was sober I was intending to write all of this anyways but no guarantees on drunk me 'membering stuff as it was.

Still reading? Cool beans. I luv ya! Whoever you are. Whatever you have done. Did someone wrong? All forgiven because I’m (drunkenly) imagining you to be the coolest diablo nerd there ever was (all of you).

It’s so unfortunate that the upper level mgmt of Blizz lost all faith in d3 years ago and yet its so very, very fortunate that the D3 Team is as insanely dedicated to this game as they are. D3 team dudes, dudettes and other non-gender specific dude-thems…

YOU ROCK!

And for the upper level slimes that gave up on D3 years ago,

SCREW YOU!!!

Cleansing breaths now. Deep breath in. Slow exhale out. Feels very good to say that.

Anyhoo, it’s been a year since I’ve played D3 and essentially this is still the same grindy game I played over a year ago. However, I really love these follower changes. This was something people were asking for years and years ago. It’s nice that they finally delivered. The seasonal ethereal changes are cool too. Somehow I totally forgot about rainbow gobs and Whimsyshire. I hope that whoever envisioned that place got the medication and therapy they needed because “WTF” it still a reaction a primal part of me has seeing that place. The rest of me thoroughly enjoys blowing up teddy bears and unicorns. I may need to talk to my doctor about my meds…

Sigh

I’m impressed that anything here survived the D2 re-release. Personally (unobjectively) I still think D2 is painfully slow, boring and repetitive but objectively I know that D2 is a game that has defied time and its nice to see the rerelease. It’s good to know that Blizz will listen to players shouting “shut up and take my money!” instead of looking completely out of touch asking, “do you not have phones?”

Progress? Well sort of. I really hope D4 is more like D3 than D2 as far as flexibility and pace goes with the open world concepts of Diablo Immortal thrown in. Here’s to D4 being MMORPG-ish and maybe kicking wow to the curb. WoW is/was a great game (it’s been my main thing for years now), but unfortunately its team has lost touch with their players and its time for a new game to come in. Let D4 be the RPG game we deserve.

Because the D2 re-release sucks even more than anything they could come up in the D3 department. I couldn’t even force myself to finish even one playthrough. Uninstalled for good.

Having said that I’m indeed planning to go DH HC next season.

Say what you want but its hard to argue with $$$$

Personally I bought the D2 remaster because I had $40 burning a hole in my pocket and I was afflicted with temp stupidity. As much as I personally still don’t like the new D2 (after trying it again), it’s impossible to argue with the results. Most of the people on my friends list (mostly wow players and some d3 players now) are in D2 when I launch the Blizz launcher, its clearly a game that many people still like. Given that its a 20 yo now, its impressive that its getting the player attention its getting.

Well, highest first week sales of a Blizzard remaster doesn’t really say much though. Personally I never understood why you would want to pay to play the same game you already payed for with a fresh coat of paint.

It could be the same reason why some people like the D3 seasons when it is basically the same thing over and over. VV did a great job with the graphics, but most of the time I was thinking when does s25 start. I am not sure if I will play anymore D2r. I am really ready for D4, but it might be a few years down the road.

Maybe, but I for one would not play season if it was locked behind a paywall.

Nor would I, however I would pay for more content but that ship has sailed.

Yeah, same here. That gives you some value for money. Getting the same content in a shinier box at least for me does not. No matter, as long as I’m not forced to play them it’s kinda irrelevant.

Yeah, especially a flood of refunds.

I also did that. Once.

Then I died and 10 minutes later died again, losing my only Gem of Ease and having no leveling items and realised my folly.

Playing a HC hero whilst drunk is a very quick way to needing another hero.

It’s all in the training! Dealing with multiple sources of distraction and other inhibitors.

First, you need cats. I have 4 currently, but I advise anyone to start with 1. Spread catnip all over your keyboard and suddenly your cat wants to play D3 when you play.

Second, you need a wife who goes into nag mode. Groceries. Laundry. Whatever.

Third, you need elderly relatives who text you constantly. Nothing like getting a text that has a million emoji’s (hearts, flowers, sad faces, laughing faces, granny faces, whatever) with the important text buried in it like “I can’t find my phone” or “I need to go to the hospital”.

Fourth, KIDS! 'nuf said.

If you can play hardcore d3 with all that, playing drunk is easy.

Surprisingly legible for a drunk post. No meandering. Concise. Grammatically correct (mostly.) On point in paragraphs.

I was expecting:

Now I’m sober.

What can I say… I’m a high functioning drunk. I can see my own drunkenness in my writing. I get all emotional lovey dovey when drunk and that’s definitely there.

I hope that D4 completely ignores existence of D3 and starts with D2:LoD as their baseline design.

Yeah, because using 20 year old stale mechanics is a great way to progress…

While maybe not the point, the irony of the sales argument is that people have been, for years, saying that doesn’t make D3 good despite its own records. I think similar to the Classic fad that’s rippled and fizzled through MMOs, the real success will be gauged in how things are like 6 months to a year after launch. The unfortunate problem with D2 is the greater RMT incentive, however, where you can’t just look at player numbers and assume it’s all legit. But that never matters to its defenders.

Given my relative disinterest in D2R since it never really promised to improve the actual broken/outdated things, the launch has seemed fairly poor. It’s not like it hasn’t been without its own unique issues like Cold Mastery or broken Attack Speed caps.

D2:LoD had TINY problems sprinkled across its systems and the UI. D3 has MASSIVE, glaring flaws which run deep into the core of the game. It’s like comparing a girl with some acne with a girl which has AIDS.

And D2 has no design flaws?

I’d name runewords and charms as design flaws. Great in concept, utterly disasterous in execution.

And let’s not forget, D2 has even less endgame than D3.

Didn’t intend to spark (yet another) D2 vs D3 war.

Talk about unintended consequences.

D2 fans, D3 fans, gentlefolk of all sorts, can’t we all just agree to hate the Jets and get along?
