With regards to the topic, I don’t recall Baal being significantly bigger than than the others in D2…

If there realm is sealed. Demonic formed magic origonated from beyond the material plane. If dimensions pass closely enough together, to cause dimensional collapse is a big unknown.
If they are what they claim, there ability to take other forms, may only be a shape shifted copy. A copy of a skill a god used in a zone, with none of its potency. That could make a master necromancer, from an apprentice.
Any students are seen to enter the demon gates through the use of portal stones. However no normal magic would be usable beyond that. The inferno would cancel out the magic of immortals also.
