Augmenting is an issue in game for new players

They REALLY need to make it so you cannot accidental waste gems on ancient legendary items when you don’t realize it needs to be primal because you are trying to get a season achievement. Everything else in the cube isn’t allowed and it stops you but not that. Pathetic

Have no idea what you are talking about. There is no seasonal achievement for augmenting a primal item. Maybe try and learn how the game (and cube) works.

As @TimberWolf stated, you did not make yourself clear. I’m going to go by some key words:

  1. In the Title you use “Augmenting”.
  2. In the description you use “waste gems on ancient
  3. needs to be primal
  4. season achievement
  5. Everything else in the cube isn’t allowed and it stops you but not that.”

My guess is: You were trying to complete the Season Journey Objective, Power Amplification, for the Conqueror Chapter and inadvertently used the Work of Cain Recipe instead of Caldesann’s Despair. In short, you forgot to add your 3 Flawless Royal Gems.

I am sorry for your loss. Tip: In the future, never use the Gem of Ease to augment your items.

Oh, and just so you know, your items DO NOT have to be Primal to be augmented. “Legendary” items include Primal and Set items.

No. I meant what I said. Allow me to reiterate.

  • Only Ancient items can be augmented.
  • Only Legendary items can be Ancient.
  • Set items are Legendary items .
  • Ancient items are upgraded versions of Legendary items (including Set items).
  • Primal items are upgraded versions of Ancient items.
  • All Primal items are Ancient items.
  • Not all Legendary items (including Set items) are Ancient.

So, in response to the OP: I simply told them that only Ancient items can be augmented and they DO NOT have to be Primal items.

Then I added the sentence, “Legendary” items include Primal and Set items.

These are Legendary items:

  1. Legendary
  2. Set
  3. Primal

Trivia: When Diablo III was first released, Set items were actually labeled “Legendary Set [Item]” in their tooltip. It was later changed to just “Set [Item]”.

The word “upgraded” would imply “more powerful”. I’d avoid using this word for primal.
Actually, primal is just an ancient with each stat having maximized roll. A good rolled ancient can be more powerful than a primal having wrong stats.

In gaming terms this may be implied. But, that is not exactly what the word “upgrade”, or any of its forms, means.

Upgrade actually means:

  1. Raise to a higher standard or improve.
  2. Make better or enhance.

I would consider Primal items as “enhanced” or “improved” Ancient items. And you are correct, this does not necessarily make them “more powerful”. But, it would probably depend on which Primal items you have and what Properties are on them. All of those Properties have maximum Stats. If you enchant one of the Properties, it will roll with maximum Stats.

But, that’s another conversation.

All I meant was, in this order, items go from:

  • Legendary (including Sets)
  • Ancient
  • Primal
