How are items like Bracers of the First Men (+50% attack speed to HoTA) calculated into speed/APS?
If I have 2aps and equip BoTFM, do I get 50% of that and go to 3aps? Or what?

The same then for Spectral Blade as well for example. It has two items that grant 50% more attack speed. So if I had 2aps then I would be at 4aps, for spectral blade specifically? Does this apply the 5aps cap since it’s you actual speed or does it bypass it since your sheet speed is under 5aps? IE, if I have 3aps and the two 50% increase attack speed items, does it mean I get capped at 5 still or does it mean I show 3aps on screen but get 6aps overall?
Yes, this is how you reach 5aps.
Basically your weapon has a base speed, this can be increased through IAS - more specifically the attack speed roll on the weapon. A 1.4 aps base weapon can be increased to 1.5 aps. Which makes ASI rolls more effecient.
Next ASI rolls are calculated into it, these all fall into the same category and stacks additvely.
Lastly there’s legendary specific modifiers, these aren’t shown in the details tab, and affect the skill animation itself and thus have its own category.
So the formula is ( [Base Attack Speed] * [ Attack Speed Increased on weapon] ) * ( 1+ [Sum of Increased Attack Speed rolls on gear] ) * ( 1 + [ Legendary Attack Speed modifiers] ).
This also means that in order to reach 5 aps with a skill that has a 50% increased attack speed from a legendary item, needs to reach 3.33 aps in the details page. The 5 aps is a cap for how short the attack animations can become, and thus how many hits can be applied per second. I thinl it will display higher, but the actual animations and applications doesn’t allow for it.
I would love to see those morons at Blizzard getting the same chance of being paid as we do when trying for a 60% chance of a gem upgrade. I am not sure what ‘new maths’ these morons are using, but it would be so much fun for these morons to get a 60% chance of being paid this week. Same for next week and so on.
