Anyone else concerned - Diablo 4

After looking at tons of online sneak peaks and first impressions - I am concerned that Diablo 4 will have a lot less item and skill/talent depth than Diablo 3. No horadric cube, no trading legendaries, no set items, no runewords, no followers, no greater rifts with ever increasing challenge. Is it just me or did I notice there are even less gear slots (no belt?).

Hopefully we are not left wanting Diablo 4 to revert to Diablo 3 with crossplay. I am left wondering why the developpers feel it is OK to go backwards on these types of systems rather than improve what we already like… I do remember that people did not like to sort through 9,000 rares to find the one rare they need for a slot - but it seems we are going back to that as well.

Yup, its concerning that they’d rather talk about the puppy pack than anything about the game. Theres also a disturbing amount of “still in development” interface being shown.

Is that actually possible?

I’m trying to be positive and think objectively.

A lot of things in the cube were done to help against the vast amounts of RNG stacked on top of RNG. Runewords were a cool idea but just make gear drop with those stats anyway. One issue with runewords was the drop rate on runes. I’d played TONS of D2 for a long time and there were runes I’d never once seen drop.

I’m curious how their current system will pan out.

It’s Blizzard’s tradition (at least for diablo) that they start with a baseboard in the initial release and then build blocks upon it through updates and extensions. Yes, people may be disappointed in the beginning, but I would expect a “true” form of the game to be reached 1-2 years after the initial release.
These games have a long lifespan anyway. The most important thing in the kickoff is to construct a resilient and pluripotent system that can be easily adapted and expanded.

Yes. This is blizzard we are talking about. it’ll be all cooldowns/buffs and 1 spender.

They’ll likely add all these things in slowly once every few months and the Live Service!™ dorks will eat it right up.

Then they’ll say something’s wrong with you for noticing that these are features we already had and that this is good for “engagement”

Also you’ll have to see “Just Cosmetics Bro” for good measure

Yes, I am concerned that the end game will not be good. Mostly because there is a limit on character progression.

Its okay for a game to have an end.

Not for those guys who play video games 18 hours per day, or those guys who feel that they have to have the best-of-the-best RIGHT NOW!!

Which D4 hasn’t addressed at all.

Exactly, I’m not quite sure why people are so excited about this. Even worse if we don’t have a system to easily find such items for trade. It’s like having an auction house, without the auction house. I hope I’m missing something here otherwise this just sounds terribly backward.

A diablo game shouldn’t have one. You should always be able to build more wealth through trading.

They may not have! I’m still waiting to see. Until we get our hands on the full version, we don’t know how long it’ll take to get decent gear.

The lack of runes and D4 runewords (but definitely not D2 runewords), as well as the lack of mercs/followers, is a big loss imo.

With Blizzard, definitely possible.

That would be lovely, sadly rares seem to be turned into crafting materials once again.

Well, D3 certainly didn’t have that either. Just a massive shame that D4 allows you to trade for crafting materials to legendaries.

Everything is telling me to cancel preorder, especially the arsenal system for barbarian; it is rather silly to have 4 weapons at once. They’re forcing players into a build and its shameful.

Fine. Then you’re okay with people quitting the game after a month or so? The design of this game being a service seems to suggest they don’t want it to have an end…

I see it both ways.

It’s the reason why I’m fine with the whole paragon/150 g-lvls to an extent. You surely shouldn’t cater to the people who play the game 18 hours per day and exhaust everything (then claim “We’re you’re prime customers”) but there should be a good selection of things to do.

Diablo 2 had an ending where you couldn’t continue to progress and its still beloved as the best arpg.

By some. I certainly wouldn’t agree to that statement. It was a trailblazer when it came 23 years ago, today it’s a relic of time.

Diablo 2, drop rates are much lower. You’ll farm for a long time and still never see certain things. Once you get good MF gear, it’s all about finding a better version of what you have.

It has a certain appeal to it and until very soon, it was my only way to play a Werebear!
