my laptop have an i7-4700mq and gtx 770m. there is some frame rate issues. any way to optimise performance?
To optimize your laptop for gaming, you can: update your graphics card drivers, close unnecessary background applications, adjust power settings to prioritize performance, upgrade to an SSD for faster loading times, ensure your operating system is updated, consider lowering your resolution for better frame rates, and if possible, upgrade your RAM and GPU for better overall performance.
Key steps to optimize your laptop for gaming:
- Update drivers: Regularly update your graphics card drivers to ensure the latest performance optimizations are available.
- Manage background apps: Close any unnecessary programs running in the background to free up system resources for gaming.
- Power settings: Adjust your power settings to prioritize performance over battery life while gaming.
- SSD upgrade: Install a Solid State Drive (SSD) to significantly improve loading times for games.
- Check OS updates: Ensure your operating system is updated to the latest version.
- Adjust resolution: Lowering your screen resolution can sometimes boost frame rates.
- Monitor refresh rate: Optimize your monitor’s refresh rate for smoother gameplay.
- RAM upgrade: If your laptop has limited RAM, consider upgrading it to improve performance in demanding games.
- GPU upgrade: For the most significant performance boost, consider upgrading your graphics card (GPU).
- Enable Game Mode: If your operating system has a “Game Mode” feature, enable it to prioritize gaming performance.
The preceding was acquired from a Google search.
I would add that if you’re using a wireless connection you might also consider using an Ethernet cable to hard wire to your modem, if possible.
my drivers is the latest driver available for the gtx 770m. finding a graphics card for my laptop is difficult, as no stores in my country sells them. my harddrive is fast enough. my ram is already upgraded to 32 gigabytes which is max. game mode does not exist in windows 8.1.
LMAOROF nice classic reply
That CPU is over 10yrs old. The GTX-770m the driver is over 5yrs old. Telling him to updates his drivers is basically useless on that Laptop. What the Laptop is about 10yrs old.
Sorry there is not really much stuff will help. Yes using a SSD & having 16gb of memory will help a little. But you are getting to the point where it is time to get newer Laptop.
One thing you could try is if you are using WiFi. Try connecting to a internet cable and see what happens. Other then that there is really not much that will help. Sorry
That will never happen because you really can’t upgrade video cards in a Laptop. It is a chip on the motherboard. It isn’t plug and play. Yes there are some Laptops out there you do have some that are plug & play.
Really Laptops or Gaming Laptops this just me are really not for gaming like a Desktop. Yes you can play games on them but it is a Laptop. I have a gaming Laptop with 10th gen CPU, 32gb memory, and a 4gb video card. It isn’t nothing to my Desktop.
It has some frame rate issues and performance issues some times.
i already have 32 gigabytes of ram and 3 gigabytes of dedicated vram, of which 19 gigabytes is available for games. i had to undervolt my cpu in order to keep it from melting however. my pc is from 2013 so, it is 11 years old. all of the components is original, with he exception of the second harddrive and the 2 extra memory sticks, which i added, without removing anything. there is 4 ram slots and each have an 8 gigabytes ram stick in it. it seems to run better on the factory overclocked gt 630m than on the factory underclocked gtx 770m. my graphics card can be upgraded. it sits in an mxm slot. though i am not sure what graphics card my bios is compatible with. toshiba is out of the pc business and can not help me.
Even if you could upgrade the video card. The drivers for it will still be old. Plus I use a cooling pad under mine. I have one that has 5 fans in it. Yes it does help to cool it down some what. But that is the nature of Laptop that will over heat when gaming.
One other thing you said you have 2 HDD’s. The drives both SSD drives? Or is one SSD & the other a Reg. HDD? Plus if one is a Reg. drive is the game install on it?
my laptop have 3 drive bays: 2 is for HDD and is being used and one is for SSD and is currently unused. a newer graphics card like a 900 series would have newer drivers and more power. one of the drawbacks of that laptop however is that toshiba prioritised storage over cooling so, it only have 1 fan where 2 is the norm on that setup.
The reason I ask you said the that one of the drives is original? Most laptop HDD’s run at 5400 rpm very slow. If you are not using a SSD and using standard HDD’s. That will cause some of your problems. Those drives read & write speeds are well under 100 MB’s a sec.
my best pc is using an external harddrive which is not any faster and there the frame rate is perfect. i have already ruled out harddrive speed. my cpu however is limited to 2.4 ghz, because that is all my fan is able to handle. anything more and it goes up to between 80 to 90 degrees celcius.
I’ll tell you a little story. I play with some body that has a gaming Laptop. She told me she was having problems with the game. She couldn’t use the Battle-net interface. I ask her for the spec of the laptop. When I look at everything I said to her. You know you can put in a SSD in there. She was running a 1tb 5400 rpm HDD. She ordered a SSD. She install it and clone everything over to it. By putting in a SSD she said all her problems went away and the game was playing great.
So if you think using a reg hdd’s isn’t part of your problem. Well you really don’t need my help any more. So Good Luck!!!
anybody else have any bright ideas?
