It’s been years since I played, but i happen to see the patch notes and might make a return for this season.
I was wondering though if there is any chance of a meteor build that’s at least viable for a little while. I’m not getting on any leaderboard but IF I’m to play again for a change I’d like something different, but most of all fun.
If the patch goes live as-is… no, not fun. Two 2H weapons needed for full dps means the set and Meteor is underpowered. Also, if autometeors are triggered by hits, and the second staff requires a stackking ip, you would expect to need a fast spammable attack skill to hail down Meteors. But as things stand a staff doesn’t really cut it. It would have been way better if the third Meteor item would have been either a source or a shoulder/bracer (but Deathwish would likely interfere again, which is why they won’t do that)…
But we might see something done for the second half of the PTR… maybe. But I guess we won’t. Doesn’t make excited one bit. Will be all about Arcane Orb or Magic Missile this time, I guess.
I have been experimenting with a Stone of jordan build including nilfers and vizier. Stack cold and the ring applies that bonus to all elements, ie all of your meteors. Then when you rock between two spells for the meteors, you pick one of the 2 spells to be in the element your convention is currently in. Will see how that goes
I doubt they did all this work to Tal Rasha just so no one uses it because the 6pc damage sucks.
I feel like it was intentionally left out so they could buff rather than nerf. Much better to see a buncha wizards doing like 110-120 with it and going ‘nah fam, weak’ than having every wizard doing 150’s with it and testing nothing else because everyone loves to show off on testing
PTR was, as usual, dissapointing and I doubt very much they will buff Tal Rasha before season 27.
Was wondering is there is hybrid DMO/TR build possible. Having said that, it would only be a thing if the auto meteors would profit from the 6P DMO bonus.
Heee… let me tell you a little something. You should never, under no circumstances, ever underestimate the incompetence of certain jerks. Well, to be fair, there’s still a slim, almost inexistant chance that they adjust some figures for the final patch. But…
I also highly doubt they will do anything meaningful at this point. There won’t be any mechanical/technical changes to the set or the items and this crap will go live as-is. The only thing we might see is them increasing the general damage of Tal Rasha (6) by some margin, or they add a dedicated Meteor damage buff somewhere on the set to make sure Meteor won’t suck compared to Arcane Orb. Or they will buff Smoldering Core a little. But I wouldn’t bet on any of that.
Well call me foolishly optimistic but I do believe there will be a final adjustment still to Tal Rasha, they had plenty of data to know where it’s at now where before this patch they didn’t have a clue because no one was using it.
If they made it OP and everyone did 150’s they’d have to nerf it, resulting in an overnerf (because when is it ever not?) and have a worse outcome for it all season. This way they can buff it and likely not cause it to be OP since they have the exact numbers.
…and there you have it. Tal Rasha and Smoldering Core will go to live as-is. So much for hoping to see adjustments. Haha… urgh.
Expected as much. I hate being spot-on
Mempo of Twilight:
Meteor Shower rune is now applied to all casted Meteors and deals 300–400% increased damage.
Woah. Ooookay, I sure as hell didn’t see this one coming. This is, indeed, a nice effect and very much appreciated. Thing is, they are still jerks. Who in their right mind will look at the Tal Rasha set, rework it and then place this kind of power on a freaking helmet. A HELMET! Goddam… why? This kind of affix should go straight to the set bonus. If not there, then it would have been perfect for a Shoulder piece, an offhand or a bracer.
But no, it has to be placed on a set slot. Damn, these guys have no freaking clue what they do. Or they actually know, but that’s even worse. Argh.
Mempo of Twilight is here to counter the archon variant, no ? But, I don’t find this smart.
Noway to have one hand + Tal Rasha’s left hand because the both weapons which support meteor are two handed weapon …
That Archon is even possible is an issue caused by how Tal Rasha mechanics work. In that regard, it should have been fixed inside Tal Rasha. Not by adding items that are just frustrating to use.
LoD Reverse Archon Meteor showered StarPacts will be S++ Tier. Even though I would liked to have TaL get some kind of mobility buff. And I don’t like two two handers beeing used.
Sure, prevents Reverse Archon with a band aid. And next time Reverse Archon causes problems you’d need another band aid. Bad strategy in the long run. I would say:
Remove Reverse Archon, then. This abomination shouldn’t exist in the first place. Now there’s two Reverse Archon offenders. One involving Tal Rasha, the other is LoN/LoD…
This is what I would have done for starters:
Swap “The Swami” legendary power with the Vyr set (2) piece bonus
→ this is in line with Crown of the Primus granting all (except one) runes to Slow Time
→ this removes LoD/LoN reverse Archon builds. All killed for good. Period.
The next thing would be changing Tal Rasha set mechanics in a way that auto meteors can only be triggered by signature skills or AP spenders
→ prevents Archon Meteors since Archon skills are neither spender nor signatures
This leaves Reverse Archon with Tal Rasha - in theory. Nope, not really, because you’d now need to wear 2 Vyr set pieces along Fazula, that’s three items instead of two. This will kill Reverse Archon Meteor Shower, even with RoRG. You would need two pieces of Vyr to get the 2 piece set, have Fazula belt power, wear six Tal Rasha items (or 5+RoRG) and still use a potential shoulder piece, Nilfur and the 2H staff which blocks the TR offhand. Have fun trying to do that.
So should it be The Smoldering Core on and Primordial Soul in cube, or The Grand Vizier on and Primordial in cube, or one weapon on, the other in the cube and no Primordial?
EDIT: So acording to maxroll D3 planner, if the 3 or fewer targets from Nilfur’s DON’T apply then The Grand Vizier+Primordial gives higher dmg, but if it DOES apply, then The Grand Vizier+The Smoldering Core gives the higher dmg. But in big density that can’t happen right? So TGV+Primordial is going to be best?
It does in a massive way. At first glance this just looks like a 5x multiplier, which is about what Reverse Archon gets with 60 or so stacks, but it’s actually much more impactful than that. Not only do you not have to rely on that gearing, timing and CDR (more room for AD gearing) but a lot are neglecting just how powerful making a regular rune like Comet become meteor shower.
Example: Meteor shower is 277% weapon damage via 7 hits…nothing else. For small targets that’s an average of 2.5-3 hits per cast, bigger ones 5 to all 7. Now for example that becomes Comet. Comet now is 740% weapon damage via 7 hits and an additional 235% as cold over 3 seconds, 7 hits. All that stacks.
That’s about a 2.5-3x multiplier in comparison to just Meteor shower before the 5x multiplier kicks in. It blows Reverse Archon out of the water, no comparison!
So OP you got your wish, super juiced up manual casted meteors no archon bs to deal with. Win/win! In fact I’m pretty sure this makes it S tier, so unless they didn’t fix WD’s deleting RG’s we may actually have a chance here in the meta. Especially considering the only good sanctified power to mix here is Storm Armor power, we should be rocking on RG’s with the combination!
Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to make use of the shoulder slot if I wasn’t going with Aughilds… Homing Pads was the best option I could come up with.
They could have thrown the new power on the Seven Sins shoulders… I can’t see anyone crafting them for any other reason these days.
Otherwise, it would be nice to get a pair of Tal Rasha shoulders added now that the source is redundant.
As it is, the way I want to run Tals Meteor is currently looking like this…
On the contrary, reverse archon is the best skill/bd in wizard arsenal. To play it successfully, you need correct gearing/coordination. Last thing you want is the game lowers all its skill req. D3 is already a casual game in terms of skill req and the bar is hitting lower and lower per patch. Most reverse archon builds have non archon version which suits both worlds.
