Another Blizzard D2R Survey Just Sent Out

^? So is this is your main argument? He’s saying its “only a remaster therefor X” and you’re saying “its not a pure remaster therefor Y”?

Doesn’t even need to be new content to make me happy

Just add the 9 circles of Hell as new endgame

Somewhat like inferno in D3

When you complete nightmare you unlock the 9th circle of hell, complete it and gain access to the 8th. Each circle of hell granting additional +2 to all monster and area levels

On the final circle of hell all areas are at least alvl 85, opening up the whole game to endgame farm

Note: subsequent hell circle skill/stats quest give alternative reward

He’s implying changes goes under the definition of remaster, and i’m providing sources to why it’s not. I’m not refusing the fact that the game has already changed, and therefore, can’t be properly classified as a remastered title.

Changes are irrelvant to the terms remaster and remake for video games specifically. They can never cross paths. Remasters of games still use the games original code for the vast majority of the build. They simply re-code certain parts and add extra features within the games already defined logic. Remakes throw out the old code and start over entirely. They may replicate certain aspects of the original game, but its all new code. So in this case, they could add dozens of extra changes and D2R will still be a remaster. They are still using the original code. Using movie examples doesn’t apply to video games.

That sounds alot like an opinion to me. So with your logic, the meaning of remaster only applies to music, images and videos, but with video games the definition is something else entirely?

Each industry has standards for what they consider remakes and remasters. We are talking video games. in video games, aka programming, remakes throw out the old code and start anew, remasters use the old code. Period. that is a fact.

Unless they suddenly toss out all the old code and start over. D2:R will never be considered anything other than what it is, a remaster.

Okey then purists can stop saying it’s a remaster therefore it must have no changes. Since remaster doesn’t mean no changes. We cool

:frowning: Did get this survey my heart breaks…

Ah well.

Still sounds alot like an biased opinion to me. It will never be recognized as a remaster for me, since it doesn’t meet the standards of the definition. If they are going to adopt one term from the music industry they should use it correctly, if not, adopt other terms that actually fits their agena. An edit would suit this game alot more at it’s current state than a remaster or a remake.

An edit takes the existing song and extends or removes certain parts . Sometimes adding a few extra sounds ie kick or bass drums. A remix is when an artist takes the stems of a song (individual tracks) and creates a new song with one or many elements of the original song.

The mere fact that you used movie or music examples shows you’re literally admitting you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to programming. Otherwise you would’ve used programming examples. I, on the other hand, am a programmer. So this is something i know a lot about. When we “remake” things in programming, like an interface, this means we are starting over entirely and perhaps even using a new language to build it. When we “remaster” things in programming, we are simply cleaning up the code, adding features into the existing code and fixing bugs.

So not only are you arguing a very obvious fact from anyone who knows even a little bit about programming, you’re also arguing with Rod Fergusson, the head of the diablo franchise:

“This is not a remake,” says Rod Fergusson, who’s been in charge of all things Diablo at Blizzard since early 2020. "We’re not trying to reverse-engineer the game and build it from scratch to look like D2. This is D2. This is the same core gameplay, the same story and tone, even the same voices of the same actors."

GG. Moving on. Glad i could end your pointless argument because neither of you knew what you were talking about.

The definition is somewhat loose. Take the star wars remasters. Plenty of new CGI was added; things that were never there in the originals. No one argued it wasn’t a remaster. And we all know a remake would involve a new cast and entirely new camera capturing. D2R falls MUCH more on the remaster side of the fence.

Continued development suits D2R better than Remastered… :man_shrugging:

start using Purist right, then we cool. i see alot of KIDS using the word wrong, only using it because it the flavor of the month.

Commonly refered to as patching, or editing, not remastering. That is different. A Master is the finished product, a remaster is upping the image and/or sound quality of the initial master. Changing isn’t a part of the definition.

Would definately suit it better. Eventhough i personally disagree about alot of suggestions.

Well i just checked the blizz tracker and they just updated their Dev version to an official 1.0!!! Maybe its the programmer in me getting ahead of myself. But this is very clearly a good sign things are moving forward as planned.

Despite wanting more changes. I really hope if they do delay the game, its because of bugs and stability and not because of changes. I can wait for those post-launch.

Patch 1.0.65085. Seems like they are getting ready for launch.

have not gotten any survey. makes me wonder why people refer to the Majority wants changes, when most are excluded from taking the survey.

Community thanks you for that!

Since that is not how surveys work statistically. You do not need to survey the majority of a population to get a sense of what people in that population prefer.

You can even calculate the number of individuals you need to sample using a statistical power calculator. For a survey like this, Blizzard likely needs hundreds and definitely a few thousand is way more than enough.

that is indeed true, but that number might not be the fact in reality. and just to be a conspiracy theorist, what is the criteria of getting the survey?, is it those who bought the most games, the most recent, the ones who support their decisions. in any case, i would love to feel repressented but i do not. but you are correct that is how a survey works. but it might not always be the right numbers
