Chapter one does not have any “collectible” reward. It grants you a potrait frame, which is available when you press F1 some cosmetics only, which are available when you press F1 (and as far as I remember a transmog or two, which are available at the Mystic). Chapters 2 - 4 will grant you 3 bags in total (1 each) with parts of a class set - they will come in the form of “mail” (you will have that envelope icon near the chat icon). The exact set is determined by the class you open those bags with (so, you may collect them for example with a Demon Hunter, but opening with a Necromancer will give you Necromancer specific items).
I have done the first three chapters now and beginning the fourth. It is harder than the first three and understandably so. The hardest looks like it will not be fighting, the altar wants a helm from a set containing all six pieces of armor. I do not have such a set yet, all my armor sets have only three or four pieces. Guess I will need to do some bounties and hope Tyrael drops a plan for.
One thing I have also noticed, when my wizard hit level 70 he had access to an armor set called Guardian. Putting those three pieces on doubled and tripled his combat stats. That set is rather wimpy in this game. Now to raise my guy to torment and continue.
The set helm the altar requires is a class specific set helm. A crafted set helm won’t work.
You do want to do some bounties, specifically Act 1 and Act 4 in hopes of getting a Ring of Royal Grandeur. That Guardian set (if it’s the level 70 version) can be mixed with a class specific set and Guardians is good boost to those sets. You’ll be wearing them up to around Paragon 2000.
As you’re playing Wizard you want to gather a Tal Rasha Set. It’s the best class set in the game this season and you’ll find yourself jumping Torments and GR Tiers in leaps and bounds when you’ve got your set and supporting legendaries.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
If you have completed chapters 2 and 3, you should have 4 pieces of your free set.
Use them.
The 2 and 4- piece set bonuses will help you complete chapter 4. (Assuming you actually take advantage of them.)
You could gamble some shards for helm at Kadala and hope to get a set helm. Or try upgrading rare helms in Kanai’s Cube, if you have the mats. Any one of the 5 Monk set helms will work.
Also, just as a heads up, to complete the entire seasonal journey you will be required to master a set dungeon. The Haedrig’s gift set this season doesn’t have an associated set dungeon, so save all set pieces for the other sets you run across (after sacrificing the helm, of course)

And that’s for another reason as well - at some point the Altar will somehow need you to have all 4 “dungeon-enabled” sets (each class has 5 sets, 4 of them having a “dungeon”).
You need to be playing on Torment 1 or higher for Class sets to drop, though you may luck out at Kadala or in Upgrading Rares at the Cube. All you need is the Helm and it doesn’t have to be one your Class can use.
Later parts of the season journey also require “conquests” which are supposed to be more difficult achievements. One of the conquests available is to complete a level 55+ greater rift using the 6 piece bonus of 6 different class sets. I completed that conquest using 4 different sets on one character and 1 one two other characters.
I don’t recall having to actually run a set dungeon (though, I did once). I know that one altar node requires pages that you get only while wearing the complete sets.
To finish the season, you absolutely do have to Master a set dungeon. Has been that way for every season, for years now. Player have requested that Blizz drop that requirement but they haven’t.
That is the ‘Years of War’ conquest (SC) & Dynasty (HC).
I did ‘Boss Mode’ instead - kill listed bosses within 20 minutes of starting a game.
Developer’s Note: We agree that obtaining Never Ending Questions was more difficult than desired. We decided to direct players to collect the necessary sets to enter Set Dungeons and provide proof at the Altar of Rites.
The set dungeon mastery altar node was patched to only require collecting the 4 sets to obtain their respective pages.
I’m quite aware of that. Didn’t question that at all. Finished the season weeks ago.
My bad memory. I double checked and Set Me Free is the season journey requirement for a set dungeon which I had forgotten.
Game on
My monk was not doing as well as I had hoped so I started a new character. Never played a necromancer before so thought I would try that. I noticed he did not start a new season but started where the monk retired, but as a first level character. He has a little catching up to do, without the free armor. But he does have a little army of skeleton warriors that are very aggressive. Their effectiveness will probably fade as he levels but they are very good now.
All your season characters will have the same paragon points. At season end your total paragon ‘experience pool’ will be added to your non-season paragon. It doesn’t always transfer as 1 to 1, especially at higher paragon levels. There are online calculators that you can use to show what it will equal to.
I am pretty sure the answer is no, but I will ask anyway. If you have a seasonal character playing in chapter 4 and you create a new character, I know that character starts in chapter 4 also. Is there any way the new character can get the free armor for that guy?
If you have not completed Ch4, The new character can get the one gift bag that has not yet been claimed.
BTW, I have tried to chat with you, both as yessquire and as zenabi, but you never respond.
I even tried playing with you as zenabi. I don’t think you were intentionally ignoring me.
Don’t you know how Chat works?
Best to just concentrate on getting one full set for one character, at first. This will help tremendously in getting to higher torment levels and higher paragons. Once you can comfortably get to around torment XIII, legendaries start to rain from the sky and gearing alts is much easier. You can run higher level greater rifts with your fully geared character and use the blood shards by gambling at Kadala with your alt hero.
But no, there is no way to get a full ‘free’ set if the first 2 gift bags have already been claimed on a different character. The third bag will contain the chest and legs (?) of whatever class opens them, but you will have to farm the boots, gloves, shoulders and helm.
Yessquire above asked if you knew how chat worked (I’ve known squire for years, he’s a great guy). If you happen to see purple writing in the chat window in lower left, that is a private message being sent just to you - to reply, just hit window and if will pop up a reply line to respond to the sender. No one in general chat can see that, it’s private.
I haven’t played too much since the D4 beta, but if I am on I will gladly run with your Necro and give you plenty of gear drops.
Tonight was an interesting game. My Necromancer is far stronger than my monk. He is able to do Greater Rifts in Master mode with no problem at all. He will probably be able to finish chapter 4. The other thing I discovered may be part of the game or a bug. I have a spell to cast a skeleton mage and a ring that allows me to cast a second one and keep them around longer. I found that I would gain two mages every time I pressed the key. So I can get eight mages for eight seconds. Definitely makes things easier.
Not a bug, that’s how that ring works. Also, looking at your profile, all your Guardian gear shows that is has +Dexterity on them. I assume you took those off your Monk. Your Necro needs +Intelligence - might want to go to the Mystic and reroll those stats? Or craft new ones.
