hey played a couple seasons here and there, but i cant get an ancient puzzle ring for the alter to save my life. is there a trick or something im missing to get one??? ive tried upgrading hundreds of yellows, tried reforging non ancient ones… im paragon 900 and burnt through all my mats and forgotten souls for this thing to no avial. I would use the new primal recipe to just make it and be done with it but i have had the only one gimme primal drop… ive cleared 119 gr solo so they should drop but they dont either… any tips would be great!! thx
or is my rng just that garbo…

If you have the node yet where you get double resources, just reforge puzzle rings all day.

been gambling tens of thousands bloodshards at Kadala with level31, still no ancient puzzle ring… almost want to give up and throw my computer out the window

You can’t get any ancient item at level 31. Only level 70 items can be ancient.

I used recipe 11 to make an ancient puzzle ring, but I was also lucky to get a couple of primal drops pretty early (the first from gr70 to unlock father potion and then two drops in ordinary gameplay). I would speed run GR90s or a bit higher to get the needed primals. And also reforge from time to time.
reforged about 20 rings, didnt get it , said f it and made it primal and moved on with my life.
I was already done with the altar for two days when my first ancient one dropped. Think i made the right call.
Upgrading rares is only good for getting puzzle rings. Don’t expect to get ancient.
When I got to that point I already had 7 puzzle rings in stash and 3 of them were ancient. All from rifts/world.
let me rephrase, hat in total about 15 puzzle rings up untill that point, no ancients, and picked one and reforged it with the second cube recipe. The odds of getting an ancient this way are 1 in 10. I did 20 and got annoyed and since i had 110 primordials said screw it and made it primal and passed the node.
thx for the info. guess ill just keep grinding for it. just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing something. hopefully get some better rng today lol
Don’t bother with bounty grinding and reforging legendaries at the cube. Just smash speed GR90-100 until your eyeballs fall out of your head. They are the fastest source of legendary + set dumps to your character and you’ll probably find many ancient rings along the way. You will also gain a lot of experience, get petrified screams, and level whatever gems you wish.

I’ve found around 20 nat drops of puzzle rings and reforged at least 20.
In that around 40 total chances for them to be ancient none of them were.
I ended up getting past it by using the primal upgrade recipe on a puzzle ring and handing that in. I actually got excess primals quicker than actually getting an ancient one.

Keep running rifts & GR, got to grind, then you’ll also get more mats

so primal puzzle ring can be used as sacrifice as well, not just ancient?
I’ve found a single Puzzle Ring thus far, Luckily, it happened to be Ancient. Normally, I would use it when my wife joins to do a Vault run but this time I am keeping it because I know it is needed for the Altar.
Regarding overall tips, you can level an alternate character to level 31 and then use Shards to gamble for rings. There is a decent chance to get a Puzzle Ring but it won’t be ancient. You could then try to Reforge (ha ha, waste of time) or just make it Primal if you have the Ash.
Yeah, so use them and get the goblins to drop more rings. They have an OK chance of replacing them. If you use the main character, anyway.
Boring, though, doing Vaults. Worse than doing Nephalem Rifts to get keys.
