Using Zei’s Stone of Vengeance to stun enemies, I am not getting any toughness boost from Ancient Parthan Defenders. I would expect to see my toughness increase when I stun an enemy.
The same happens when I stun with the Rattling Roll rune for Vault. No toughness increase.
According to the Maxroll Website, increasing the number of stunned enemies within 25y should directly increase your sheet toughness.
APD works like Unity i think, it does increase your actual toughness, but does not reflect on your sheet, this is from my experience using it with Scythe Necro
It has no UI whatsoever
WORST of all…the “toughness” it grants is “fake” IMO…because if the enemy is stunned…well they are not doing damage when you have the damage reduction…and when they start attacking, you lose all the mitigation because they are no longer stunned !!!
Its like the chicken and the egg…the whole item is backwards
As far as that goes, I am using them in speed GRs on a glass cannon Shadow build, and I want to reduce my damage taken when I strafe through lightning, arcane, or molten ground effects (not the explosions).
I am not trying to reduce the melee or ranged damage taken from hits.
I would still consider this a bug since all other items in the game with this type of wording increase your sheet toughness.
Unity is not in the same class, since it does not reduce your damage, it just redirects it to another player/follower.
That makes sense with Unity! Thx
I tried testing the mechanics a while back…and lol, it was impossible! When I used bone armor…well I wasnt getting hit…and I could never get a satisfying damage taken number
Then Wudi said the only way to test the APD is with 2-3 friends in brawler…have you stun 2 of your friends while a 3rd attack you from range…and I couldnt be bothered
It works! but its almost impossible to get an exact mitigation percent because the DR changes so fast
Wudi used it in a GR 150 Raekor push, and he would have almost infinite toughness throughout the rift because of density
BUT once he got to the RG, almost always gets one shot over and over and over
He ended up using the stone gauntlet
APD is almost the worse defense option I think, for Shadows Wraps of Clarity, Elusive ring, 2pc Crimson all better options
Yes, but I am on a super speed build, and I don’t want to be slowed down by using a generator. I am specifically trying to fill the bracer slot on my build.
As long as it works, then it is fine, but they need to fix it so that it updates the sheet toughness.
I want to run the highest GR I can in under 1 minute, and I am stuck at GR 118 because I have to dance around the molten.
All elite affix damage have either a “ranged” or “melee” classification
So getting melee/ranged + Elite damage reduction on chest does mitigate a little of the damage
I used the words “melee” and “ranged” to indicate physical hits from mobs or projectiles, not ground effects. I understand that ground effects can also fit that description, but that is not what I was talking about.
You said that the bracers won’t help much because if the mobs are stunned, then they are not hitting me anyway. I was saying that that is not the type of damage I was trying to reduce.
Parthans definitely works. I believe that at one point in the past, it reduced your damage “subtractively”, rather than “multiplicatively”. In other words, with 9-12 Frozen mobs you could achieve complete damage immunity. In the present day, I think it works multiplicatively.
i.e. 5 frozen mobs at 12% mitigation per mob = 0.88 ^5 = 53% damage taken / 47% mitigation.
The best way to test it again, if you wanted to re-test and verify, would be to use a Necromancer character and find a shock tower in Pandemonium fortress. Just observe and record damage numbers from the tower for a bit and find an average value. Then kite some mobs to the tower, count them, and pop LOTD -Frozen Lands. That will keep them frozen for a while, long enough to record some more values.
As for displaying that on your sheet… yeah, it never has. That does seem out of keeping with some other, similar buffs (WD’s Swampland Attunement changes your sheet toughness, right?) But, APD has been this way a long time- doesn’t seem like Blizz is going to fix it, for whatever reason. Hope I’m wrong, though.
Sounds like a fun challenge! Are you playing Hardcore? If not, maybe consider just taking Awareness, or just accepting the possibility of death. You could fit a little extra offense in that bracer slot instead, if you either take a pair of Strongarms that also rolls knockback on hit (very hard to find) or a pair of Lacunis and also pick up a few extra AS rolls- at 2.15 sheet APS you can go down from a 7 frame Strafe to a 6 frame, which should represent about 17% more damage.
Genuine idea on testing the APD!
lol, I banged my head for about an hour when I tried to test it…getting hit and trying to get a sample of damage number was impossible
