How is it that for the regular non leader board player it is so hard to get even ancient drops and rolls on the cube . But the ones on the leader board have all ancient and primal gear ? If you look at the 1000th player on monks leader board his gear is half Primal and half ancient . What is secret to it ? is it Boting
That is just how math works. It isn’t that the leaderboard players are more likely to get good gear. It is that people getting good gear are more likely to show up on the leaderboard.
They play more efficiently to obtain better gear.
Some, maybe, use bots to become more efficient.
You cant win if you don’t play…
Best way of farming Ancient/primals is using the reforge recipe in the cube which keeps the item the same but rerolls it .
Just need to play, and be efficient. Keep opening rifts, town is lava, etc etc. Good ancients will come. Don’t focus too much on the primals. This is how I did it this season:
My approach this season on monk was to first get innas obviously (didn’t bother with journey, just ran low level rifts), then run 90s second or faster GRs with water. Started at like GR75 when I first got the 6-piece but could quickly do it on GR90. Then I just kept speed running GR90s until I had decent ancients in most spots (except rings and amulet), gambling with kadala for missing pieces, did the free seasonal augments, then went to do GR120 fire runs for XP at maybe 1100 paragon or something.
Then later in the season to gear my wizard, I first asked a friend to carry me through GRs until I had (mostly non-ancient) gear to solo GR90s with, then again I ran fast GR90s with the wizard to get good ancients. I also kept my basic crafting mats low by upgrading rares as well as kadala. I did a bit of bounties for the wizard as well, but mostly for the weapon. All the armour, jewelry and off hand were drops/kadala/rare upgrades.
That said, my 14min GR150 monk clear is no longer fast enough for the leader board…
I “only” see three primal items… Weapons and boots on Tiberius.
Mostly luck and just running content over and over.
This season the only Primal piece of gear for my Typhon’s Wizard is her weapon. Everything else is Ancient, but half of those coming from rare upgrades or rerolling.
But… I have full sets of Tal’s and Firebirds, half Ancient/Primal for each set. All those came from either drops or gambling at Kadala… and I wasn’t even trying.
Was able to complete both of those sets long before I had a complete Ancient set for Typhon’s…
Run a mass of Nephalem Rifts in a very fast fashion to acquire tons of keys. Best way to do that is running in public groups. Once you did that enough you run medium level, tier 90 and higher Greater Rifts solo successfully by burning through your stack of keys. Tier 90 and above of Greater Rifts always deliver the highest count of Legendary or Set item loot once Rift Guardian is slain. All the while you can push high end 120-130s if you have augments and stats for it.
Also please consider the element of luck here, they can be the dedicated players but finding a Primal that your class would use is at really low odds. Run some bounties in public games to collect some Horadric Crafting material and you’ll just have enough to reforge a few items just enough to reach a Primal if you haven’t found one yourself. Thinking how rare the Primals actually are, you should consider doing more than one task and juggle others, which only a dedicated player could prevail.
Solo is much better for keys since the follower changes, because you put cains set on your follower (and sages, and avarice band).
And for primals, some players equip primals even if it’s a downgrade over their better rolled ancient piece. Just because the red frame looks cool, or because they don’t really look at the gear, only auto-equip any primal. I’ve certainly salvaged a few primal pieces of gear that I use because they didn’t roll right.
The chance of a legendary being ancient is 1 in 10.
The chance of a legendary being primal is 1 in 400.
This means that, on average, for every 400 legendaries you obtain, you’ll get…
- 359 legendaries
- 40 ancient legendaries
- 1 primal ancient legendary
It doesn’t matter by which method you obtain them, the chances of each rarity remains the same, i.e. you could get them from a mob drop, by crafting, from a bounty cache, clicking on a loose stone, clicking on an armour rack, opening chests, drops from elites, drops from guardians, gambling blood at Kadala, upgrading rares to legendaries in the Cube, reforging legendaries in the Cube and so on, and so forth.
This is a numbers game. If you want to improve the rate at which you acquire ancients and/or primals, you need to improve the rate at which you acquire legendaries full stop. So, T16 rifts as quickly as possible. Then you want to do GRs at GR90 or higher. GR90 is the lowest level at which a Guardian drops 12 loots. 10 are guaranteed to be legendary, the other two can be blue / yellow / legendary. Higher GRs will give you more XP per run, but do not give you more loot per run. So, run whatever level (at least GR90) where you can complete each run in 2-3 minutes each.
At that speed, that’s 20-30 runs per hour, and that’s a minimum of 200-300 legendaries per hour, which equates to an average of 20-30 ancients per hour and, a primal every couple of hours.
The secret to it is that the high paragon players aren’t wasting time farming bounties for reforges, they’re just non-stop doing quick rifts for keys, and incredibly quick, high GRs. Their rate of acquiring legendaries is probably vastly higher than yours and therefore so is their rate of acquiring ancients / primals. Also, if they’re playing in groups where the players regularly play together, they’re probably also loot-sharing so if one hero gets something useful for one of the other players, they’ll trade it to them.
This ^^^ x 1000. Ain’t it aggravating to spend all your time gathering reforge mats, spend time at cube to get what you want and then BAM!, what you wanted drops on the next GR?
Only worry about reforging late in a season, imho.
P3000+…and STILLLL 000 Zer000 Primals equipped on my main. Season seeding is botched.
3347 paragon here, also no primals on my monk pushing or speed fire build. I have discarded a couple primals because wrong rolls (for example a primal dex vit chest that I gave away in favour of my ancient dex all-res), and I have good or very good rolls in all slots (except travelers ammy ), so I don’t care about not having red frames around any of my gear. Had a great compass rose drop recently though, which is awesome!
I also found a GG primal echoing fury (trifecta % damage, ias, CDR), but I never run water these days and doesnt matter for T16, sooo…
I’d really like a better travelrs pledge though, it’s at the point where im considering running bounties for it…
You got any good ancients?
Same case, the only 2 unoptimized items are my traveler ammy and compass rose. They are near-perfect non-Ancients but ammy is non-Fire dmg. Been reforging Travelers ammy 50-60 times through out the season…but I got nothing good from reforging.
Why is it that the players that complaining about gear are the ones who reforge?
Just stop doing it. The benefit of that perfect item means very little. This is why
we don’t do it. I have had arguments with people many times. There are 3 reason
farming bounties or reforging is worth it in terms of progression.
#1 You get them for free
#2 finding decent weapons with proper rolls at the beginning of season
#3 crafting aughilds or crimson sets.
What do you do with souls then? …I only focus on 1 class per season per region. And P4000-6000 is definitely not my goal.
You don’t do anything with them. I have over a million souls on non season. 158k in season so far. I will never complain about gear because my gear is great without using them.
At low paragon farming exp is even better as diminishing returns are a lot less. The higher paragon you go the less you benefit from paragon. So someone at 10k might benefit from reforging because they get very little out of paragon. That 1-2% roll would be worth it.
At 1k you can get 1-2% power in a 30 minutes.
My best this season for my Wizard are my Squirts Ammy (20%Cold[Rolled], 10%CHC, 72%CHD, Socket), Typhon’s Gloves (992Int [Rolled], 10%CHC, 46%CHD, 7%IAS), and Convection of Elements (200% Elemental, 602 Int, 6%CHC, 50%CHD [Rolled])
My ammy has no Fire dmg, I don’t see why I shldn’t reforge when I hv souls.
I said this in another thread and the context here is “I saw a P2400 Inna Monk with 8 Primals equipped.” I don’t know how maybe he ran BOT speed GR90 and Bounties 1,000,000 times with unlimited Reforges or may be he got lucky like I did 2 seasons ago when my P2400 Firebird wizard got 11 Primals equipped by the end of the season, who knows.
And today my P3100 Inna monk has 0 Primals equipped like wwow.
