The current game world has no value outside of bounties which is pretty much split farming (Pseudo multiplayer). If the world dropped GR keys/bounty materials, some people might prefer farming the large open world D3 has to offer. The reason why it feels small is because the game currently literally offers you 5 locations per act (bounties), rifts, and greater rifts. THAT is what is making the game feel small. If you expand upon the gameplay loop/reward structure, we might actually go through adventure mode especially when the difficulty system is reworked. Read below and thank you for your time.
1.) Add a very low drop chance of bounty materials from overworld monsters. (Overworld as in, A1-A5 adventure mode, not inside a rift/GR)
2.) Add a drop chance of bounty materials from events out in the overworld such as cursed chests / zone quests.
3.) Add a small drop chance of bounty materials to Act bosses.
4.) Add a small drop chance of greater rift keys to Act bosses.
5.) Add a large amount of XP gain to act bosses.
6.) Add a “Final” end game difficulty called Inferno. It is scaled to GR150.
7.) Change all difficulties(Scaling) to only have 5 difficulty modes. Normal (~GR1), Nightmare(~GR30), Hell(~GR75), Torment(~GR100), and Inferno(GR150).
8.) (Maybe/Undecided) While inside a game (Not inluding Inferno), you can change the scaling within the game to be a higher GR within the range of the difficulty. So Normal would be GR1-30 and inside the game you can change it while in town. Not sure if this is a good idea but it would create more options without having 16+ difficulties. A normal player can probably handle GR1-30 and so if they joined a random normal game, whatever its set to is probably fine. The ranges/scaling I posted was thrown together, could be something else as well. For example, could be Normal1-5 and every # adds ~5-10 GR scaling to the world. But it all has to happen inside the game so when players go to FIND a game, there are LESS difficulties. ***** Because the issue now is that there are too many difficulties to find a game, especially on hardcore mode where less players play.
You really should play season. Especially next season.
I will check it out. What usually happens when I play D3 is that I go super hard the first week, make one of each class in hardcore mode. Grind one or two of them to T16/GR75+ capability then get burnt out.
Why?
1.) Bounties are a means to be competitive in a faster format. You can reroll items to try and get primal or just a better version. A player who does bounties vs one who doesn’t is like being competitive vs non-competitive. I do not enjoy running bounties. Therefore, I must force myself to do a task I do not enjoy. I would rather stop playing and play something else.
2.) GR / Caldasans. I like that we can grind to get even more stats via Caldasans because what D3 needs desperately is more “things” to grind for. That is what the game lacks. The issue is that for every GR I run, I must click the button 5 times to upgrade a gem, why? It’s fine for a hundred or so GR’s but after that it starts to get old. I would rather click 1 button to upgrade my gems.
3.) Sometimes the meta is not the build I like playing but it usually balances out because there is at least one classes meta that I would enjoy playing. For example, I don’t like bombardment crusaders but I love the blessed shield crusader. Imagine there were ways to make a non-meta build get up to the strength of one of the meta builds? Not an easy feat with this kind of scaling but it would be fun. (One of the reasons D2 is easier to balance is because you are dealing with 1-10000 for example, just 5 digits. When you are dealing with 1e200 Trillions, zillions, quadtrizilioions, then you don’t know where you are at anymore with balance.
4.) Doing GR/Rifts all day is fun but gets repetitive. I enjoy going into adventure mode and exploring and clearing random zones I feel like “just because” but there is no reason to do so. If you read what I suggested above, it would create that reason. More options, the world will feel bigger.
Anyways, i’ll check out the new season and see what happens.

That’s disputed. Focusing on bounties can hold you back compared to running greater rifts.
Also late this season a new way of getting bounty mats has been introduced (the mats will carry over to non season), and S 28 will introduce a whole new objective, the Altar, to farm for.
Dude, everything is about killing monsters…
Just with different rewards…
No matter how you design it, it should always be about killing monsters.
Bounties are a must, unfortunately. The xp reward is low to non existent, loot is meh it is just for those bounty mats.
Gr does give way more xp and thus more power. Time spent grinding bounties to gamble for a nice rolled primal is a waste of time, imo.
Better spent in gr to gain xp and more paragon. Getting you stronger much faster and way more reliable / predictable. Plus there is loot. Much more. Might just find nice items along the way…
I rarely grind many bounty mats through bounties. I loved those holliday gifts, finally had a reason to clear out my puzzle rings… lol…
Still I get my gear up to some decent level. Better gear than that does not get me significantly higher in gr.
Caldesanns does provide a nice boost though.
Getting all the resources, gems and lvl125 whisper’s, is easy. Upping them to lvl150 is a grind, however I do not feel that gets me significantly higher up gr level wise.
Ow, I do not care about leaderboards.
What is the new way of getting bounty materials?
It’s the Holiday Gifts. Each gift having five of each bounty rune in it. It was supposed to be temporary but it’s still running.
Yeah, temporary but still active (maybe by mistake).
I am guessing Blizz will let it ride till the end of season because of the wings. People want those wings.
Yep. More truer words have failed the Turin veracity test.
