Altar of Rites (to spend all weekend gamba souls)

Really was pumped for the new season, with the layered mechanics of previous seasons. Rocked through the journey, but ended up leaving my altar unfinished?

Why?

Because after farming the mats of a Staff of Herding, I hit the brick wall of an Ancient Puzzle Ring. I spent over 1300 Forgotten Souls gambling for one in the cube, only to keep coming up short.

I have played and 100% completed all but 3 seasons of the 30 in D3 - but I will not be finishing my altar in this one. I will not spend countless hours farming souls for them to be sacrificed to RNGsus to no avail. I will not pray for more primals to drop, so I can use the ash to make a ring.

Call this post an airport, because I am announcing my departure. I really was hoping for a more enjoyable experience but gambling 50 souls a pop to unlock 5% damage is not fun.

Use ashes to primalize a regular ring. 100 ashes, one time.

Even just doing GRs, or whatever other thing you do in the game, will eventually get you one. Take a breath, de-stress, and just keep on playing how you want to play. When you eventually get an Ancient Puzzle Ring to drop (or craft one with destroyed useless primals), pop it in the Altar and go back to what you were doing before.

Don’t let one specific dropped item ruin your enjoyment of the entire season. It’s been live for less than 48 hours so far, there’s still a few months left to find one easy peasy. <3

Only level 70 items can be Ancient. What makes it difficult is if you have the altar power that removes item level requirements, it can be hard to tell if an item is actually level 70. So if you are using a Puzzle Ring that you found early in your season journey, then you are just wasting crafting mats trying to make it Ancient.

You need to use a Puzzle Ring that you find after you reach level 70 in order to reforge to Ancient, or conversely convert a rare level 70 ring into legendary in the cube.

Considering how easy it is to get mats from visions I don’t consider the trouble of getting an ancient puzzle to be that onerous. The season has been out just over 2 days at this point and you are already quitting because something is too hard or too grindy. Is the fact that it takes longer than 2 days to finish the entire seasonal content really that upsetting? Sure, RNG can be a pain.

When the rend set for barbs came out, it took me 3 weeks of farming to finally get a ring of might. Is that normal? No. Did it piss me off? Yes. Was that a bad design problem? No, that was a bad luck problem. It happens. But since the season is gonna last for months, your lack of luck in the first 2 days is not that big a deal.

And you get 55 free ashes for doing your first solo GR70.

In all the seasons since Primals were added, I have yet to get a useful one at GR70. That is doing on both sc and hc.

RNG with no pity system is complete undefendable garbage game design tho, OP has every right to be annoyed. 1.3k souls for one ring is absolutely absurd, and absolutely believable with the dogwater loot system of this game.

I mean, yes. It is. Though I don’t think it’s for the reasons you think.

Season’s been live for what, 3 days? This dude’s farming like 27 some odd souls an hour.

Forgotten souls? More like “Forgotten what outside looks like.” This guy needs to take a breather.

27 souls an hour is nothing.

I got really lucky playing hcssf. Got the staff, ancient puzzle, visions token and ramas within 2 days. just got to get 1100 bloods to carry on.

…27 souls an hour? you get 27 souls every 5 mins if u go 90 second runs lol. You need to learn how to play the game man.

Ouch. Not one is pretty bad luck.

Most seasons I get a useless GR70 primal. One season I got a most godly Squirts Necklace that rolled double crit, main stat and socket. I had kept it un-rolled for the longest of time but it’s now on my Tals Meteor wizard with cold damage instead of main stat. Tals Meteor may no longer be the best build in the game but I still enjoy it.

Would enjoy it a lot more if we had the Altar in NS

Well the altar is permanent so you will eventually get the ring and complete the altar. where is the rush?

End of seasons?

there is plenty of time until that

I had one on the 5th try.

The first time the altar was live it took me 70 hellfire amulets to get an ancient.

Having to kill four mobs to get keys to kill mobs for crafting mats and farm even more crafting mats was horrendous. I ran out of forgotten souls crafting that crap. I had actually forgotten about that ordeal until I started crafting this season and my friend reminded me. I got it in 14 this season.

Sure, it might be nothing if you no-life the game. I reiterate, we had BARELY 72 hours of total combined seasonal potential play time and this dude is ALMOST done with all relevant seasonal content. In a season that has not one, not even two, but THREE seasonal mechanics going on. Biggest season ever and he’s almost done, in like two days (assuming he sleeps at some point).

I really don’t, actually. I don’t “need” to do anything regarding recreational activities.

I just think it’s ridiculous to complain about being “gate kept” from completing the season when the season’s barely 72 hours old, and I also think it’s ridiculous to assume one thousand three hundred forgotten souls is “totes normie” within that time frame.

I had completed the altar at 14 hours in game time this season.

You can farm ~600 souls an hour if you are efficient.

And are you posting in the forums complaining about it? Threatening to uninstall? Railing against the gross injustice inherent in the system that has the sheer audacity, the brass balls, to withhold that random gear drop you are looking for?

Which would arguably make the OP’s case even worse, because now they’re complaining about wasting two hours instead of two days.
