All Sets should be creating equal!

Every season or two I keep seeing a class / spec being Buffed up or nerfed down. Instead of doing this, blizzard should work on making all classes and or sets as equal as possible. There are so many sets that I love to play that rarely get played because they cant even come close to competing with whatever the flavor of the season or month is. I’m sure a lot of us love playing the sets that just can’t compare to or compete with others on how high they can go in a GR. Its about the same thing every season. Everyone plays what ever class or spec is the most powerful that season or time period. So in the interest of competitive Variety stop buffing and nerfing and work on making all sets, classes, spec, etc. . as even as possible on the playing field so there can be more options to choose from because lets face it who wants to run a set for one of the classes if when maxed out your luck to do a 110+ unless you have a high paragon level. With that being said I understand that the higher your paragon level is the more powerful your build can be and that’s a great reward for the players who have put the time in but I refer the balances for all the sets or LoD builds with the same paragon levels. Please Blizzard make it so all builds can run very close to the same GR levels with the same paragon level. In doing so I think people would start playing with the sets and classes they love the most and not just the ones that can top the charts.

you know that it is impossible to balance everything in a game ? there is always something that will be stronger than something else . And no one force you to play which or which set, just play whatever you want, that’s why there is set rankings now .

Perfect answer.

I play WD and my favorite build is Jade since… too many years.
Mundu is more powerful so I use it to up gems, but I prefer to die with my Jade build.

I’d say you’re not wrong. But you’re certainly not right either.

Certain builds have insane outliers from the rest of the pack, builds that needs to be nerfed, HARD and builds that needs to be buffed. Blizzard have been neglecting certain builds for what feels like aeons.

Don’t fool yourself, Firebirds is going to get nerfed. But when are we going to see these other builds rise from the ashes like firebirds did?
Impale, tragoul, natalya, raekor, uliana, arachyr. There’s probably a few more builds.

We need to reign in the firebird, it’s just overshadowing other builds by such a large margin that it doesn’t make sense to play anything else in season 24. 3k paragon 150 clear. Blizzards target was 135 with 5k gons.

Area damage needs a rework to be useful in groups again without making me feel like i’m playing from jupiter.

there is nothing stopping you playing any set they all have there own boards now

Even if they buffs other sets and / or nerfs firebirds, there will always be a set stronger than the others. Doesn’t matter the class you play, that’s just how meta works.

Yes exactly, meta junkies don’t care about anything else anyway, whatever cream floats to the top right?

Yes. but there’s a HUGE difference between running with the pack or leading the pack.

If all sets do 130 at 3k, then i dont care if one set can do 135 at 3k. But i DO care if one set can do 110 at 3k and another set can do 150 at 3k. Those are the huge outliers, those are the ones we’re asking to be reigned in to sensible levels.

i agreed that the gap is just too big to justify the rhetoric “there will always be one better than others”, which is true.

about the 135@5k…it was throw out the window a good time ago it doesnt even matter anymore.

Problem is this:

When trying to have skills for each class, and have that skill fit the class its made for, that affects how it interacts with monsters, when you factor in its abilities, how they work etc.

While many are the same (you have channeling skills, resource building skills, resource spending skills, defensive skills, etc) for each class, they all have slight variations to make them a bit different for each class.

Sure, you could cookie cutter them exactly the same on paper, but then it wouldn’t matter at all what hero you played or what build you ran.

You could run any Barb build or any Monk build and the exact same results? That wouldn’t be fun at all.

So instead you have variations of builds with various items to enhance them and while they try to balance each one to try to keep them from being too powerful or too weak, ultimately it boils down to players causing the problem.

IE:

Players are going to look for the builds that will get them the most reward for the least effort. Those builds become popular. If they are too popular they get nerfed. Other builds take their place and the process repeats. They boost those builds that are F tier to shake up the meta for a while.

This is an endless process.

Otherwise the game would be even more stale than it is.

I never said anyone forced me to play anything not what I said at all. I also understand that they cant make everything perfectly even but they can make all sets close to each other which right now they are not. there is a huge gap between a lot of the sets. The point I was trying to make was not that they need to be “cookie cutter builds” either. There will be differences on the leader boards and that’s great but it needs to be because of a paragon level or even better because of the skill of the player that’s running that build not because a set or build is greatly OP. Also I think the game would be more fun and have more variety to choose from to play in groups, dps wise in stead of which one is buffed the best right now. They need to work on getting ALL the sets closer to each other not buff this one and nerf that one in a never ending cycle. I play with just about all classes and set but lets face it no one wants to be in the group where that cant help out and they just have to get carried along…thats not fun at all!

the problem is not having a best/strongest build…
the problem is the gap between the worst and the best…

question is: how much the dev team wants to fix this? making all builds(at least set builds) be inside a range of 3-5 grs?

To be honest, I don’t see that happening. As I said, you get them all that close together, then what is there to make you want to play different builds? Not because one is better than another.

I play mostly Demon Hunter. I play mostly UE and a few variants of it. Is it the best possible build? No.

I enjoy playing it though for me.

Back in Vanilla, you only had a few top builds. Back when grinding to Paragon 100 was a thing and you had only Torment with Monster Power of 1 through 10.

I ran a top build using the CM freeze Wizard. Would often group up running nothing but decaying crypts over and over with other friends. They would have some build on a different class that would keep up. Back then Demon Hunters were sub tier too.

Anyway.

Balance has been happening all along. Just because you don’t think its close enough doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to balance it. Do I agree with all the changes all the time? No. But I cannot pretend to know what needs to be done to make it better either.

Part of the problem I think is the scale. But we are at a point now where that cannot be changed without serious rework. Like annoyingly serious rework.

Doubt that will happen.

exactly!!! within 5 GR levels from one another would be great in deed. Let the paragon level or skill of the player be what makes that gap bigger on the boards.

Problem is Greater Rifts and not sets.
D3 is a dumpster fire now cause of it.
We get endless threads with people complaining how there fav set is under performing.
If the devs were more creative, they would of thought of a better design then this
endless treadmill of rifts.
This game has turned into Gauntlet on steroids, so fast, that nobody cares about
combat anymore, just being quick at it.

The issue is that the skills used by the sets themselves aren’t equal. Some sets are great at clearing trash, but suck at quickly killing RGs. Others excel in single target but can’t kill a group of targets worth anything. And you also have the “speed” sets which can quickly clear easy, farmed content. Finally, there are a few builds which are solidly in the middle ground - Not the worst RGK, not the worse clear, not the worse speed, but are simply all-together mediocre.

You also can’t exactly get damage to be equal, especially with as many stats as there are in D3. Area Damage, for instance, is incredibly strong for pushing. But it’s not that great for speeds. Crit chance/damage are generally solid stats, except for any Thorns build. CDR can range from “You absolutely need X%age or the build’s garbage” to “This stat is worthless avoid”. Lets not even mention RCR, which isn’t stacked for any build.

With as needlessly complex as stat balancing is, build balancing is outright impossible.

It’s also pretty mathy. Most game developers aren’t mathematicians.

As I said, at this point, there is no easy fix for the game.

Lets say for the sake of argument all the sets were balanced equally and every build has the potential to reach the same level of performance.

Now what?

  • Do we really accomplish anything here?

  • Does this actually extend the game?

  • Does this actually create new interest?

  • Does this actually make any real difference ultimately?

If you are honest with yourselves, the answer is a flat no.

Imagine finding decent pieces of gear, lets say Ancient, but not perfect yet. The difference between decent and perfect (outside of augments) might be a few or more GRs. Right?

Lets say the difference between the various builds are the same. Whether you are running GR120 in 6 minutes or GR130 in 6 minutes the RIFTS ARE THE SAME.

All that matters at that point is how fast and how high you can clear a GR. That’s it.

And no matter how much they narrow the builds, there are ALWAYS going to be builds that perform better than others. *shrug

But again, we aren’t really gaining anything. Same thing, over and over and over again.

The only thing that keeps me doing Seasons, is the leveling process. Actually going from nothing to having a nice powerful build at the end of the season, no matter what build that is or how individually powerful it is next to another.

And that’s my opinion.

It is 4th of July, I’ll try to be nice about this topic.

Balancing sets isn’t difficult. That is all I gotta say.

That’s the reason, why I quitted D3 right there… everything is already too equal. In rifts you don’t even have to pay attention to the monsters‘ abilities. All classes function similarly and major differences only come into play, if you are in a party (afaik, since I have never played grifts in a party, I quitted after doing like 50 grifts or so and went for Baal runs instead).

gameplay bro, you are the proof.

RF for DH
CM for wiz
WW/HOTA for barb
Gen+SW for monk(not sure if bellz was a viable build too)
bats/bears for WD.

they always call it “balance”, but the gap between classes and builds has only widened since the expansion. are they really trying to balance everything or they call it “balance” in front of us and behind they just have a “rotation” philosophy?

they have the dummys, the test rooms and all developing tools you can imagine.
it sure is not hard…as i said above…seens more like a lack of will to do it.
