Report them and do not rise to the bait.
Silence should be short unless this was not the first.
Be Cool. Peace.
The correct path was to report them, and move on with your day. Had you done so, it’d be them that would be under a silence penalty right now, unable to play the game, rather than you.
Then report them.
Discretion is the better part of valor. Don’t feed the trolls or let them get a rise out of you. Punk kids that aren’t worth your time or effort. Report them and move on. Be the better person.
Exactly as stated above. You would be amazed on how much you can get under the skin of the keyboard warriors by simply ignoring them or just by simply responding with something like “oh?”. Report them and move on.
Ps. As far as someone calling you the N word, as disgusting as it is, just remember racism is just a sign of ignorance. Those people obviously have no idea where their ancestors came from so just brush it off and laugh at their shortcomings.
Well lesson learned I hope. grow thicker skin.
As others said, report it and move on. It really isn’t worth sinking down to their level, you’ll just harm yourself.
I agree 100%. And yet, OP’s concern with Blizz’s handling of these situations is left to be addressed. Both OP and the agitator should have been penalized. I’ve been on the losing end of these situations in the forums because the agitator taddled. They like to “dish it, but can’t take it”. Blizz is pathetic about administratiing sound or justice judgment. Not that that news to anyone. Anyways…
Generally speaking they do. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Both tend to get actioned, although Blizz does not share account actions against other players with you.
If you managed to get a forum suspension then you broke the rules. It does not matter WHY you did it, just that you did. You don’t know who reported you. Assuming it was someone you were arguing with is easy, but often it is someone else who is just fed up.
We see the same thing in WoW CS forums. Person gets actioned but thinks it was because they were reported by someone angry about PvP. Turns out it was something else totally.
Bottom line is that if you don’t want to get into hot water, don’t break the rules. Taking the bait is never a wise move and never ends well. Not IRL and not online.
