Once you introduce a cap, that establishes a baseline of power. So the higher the paragon cap, the more grinding there is to achieve a baseline standard. And nobody likes long grinds just to get to a baseline. Think of the Diablo 4 renown system. Same thing.
So keeping the cap at about 800 is a very reasonable place to begin a baseline power. An infinite cap is a whole different ball game. There is no baseline of power so nobody is faced with a grind towards it. There is no prerequisite grind for a baseline of power.
What this does is put items back in the forefront for the highest levels of pushing. You can’t just grind paragon to be gifted the next GR. You either need to keep attempting different strategies and hope for some better drops along the way, or you will have met your limit.
Watching the top of the leaderboard be stuck at one spot and then for one person to beat it – well that will be more of an event. Instead of just knowing they got a thousand more paragon points, you will know that some RNG win happened, or extreme skill. This will be how every player will face pushing now.
This is the best direction for the game.
Please don’t bow down to those demanding a higher cap for paragon points. They know not what they ask for!
However, they need to save our paragon settings in the Armory. My farming speed build will have all my points in movement speed. My pushing build will have a more balance distribution.
I agree, it expands the game to where the other systems are more useful and more potent. I never liked how exploitative paragon levels were for botters. Or that if you were stuck at a greater rift all you had to do was grind more paragon levels. It’s just not a very fun motivator compared to the other systems which have more RNG factors. Thus, more potential excitement.
If they consider keeping the paragon cap as permanent in seasons, which I hope they do. Then when bring back the Altar in S30, they can keep it as is and people can get their GR150 clears.
If they consider bringing SSF into non-season, I’d be okay if the paragon cap was in SSF mode only. That way the people who botted or grinded their way to P10K+ can be ignored and everyone can point out that the SSF leaderboards is more legitimate.
Absolutely the best thing ever. It will make augments godly as hell though and 200 into cdr and ad for example is super strong. This will kill botting and its advantages but thud still lives should be next in the crosshairs.
I don’t care about the tonnes of para in my non season and non season play should be better as its an even playing field now and those chars you make season to season and keep have good value with all that augmented gear etc
No more barracks, omg…so good
A+ dev team, I’m actually going to come back and play
It provides players with little to no incentive to continue playing the season.
Don’t be surprised if S29 turns into a ghost town inside a week because of this.
I get what you’re saying, but if there is a cap that gives power, that becomes the baseline for endgame. So if they raise the cap to something that requires weeks to achieve, then people are going to psychologically feel that as a prerequisite grind. And something that bots can automatically just get. Not any different than the D4 renown system. It only looks good on paper, not in utility.
I’m excited to see who figures out the optimal paragon point distribution for various builds.
P800 turns a paragon grind back into a gear grind. You can use your paragon points to hit breakpoints now if you don’t have the right stats on your gear.
Also, paragon points isn’t something that’s shown when you view builds on leaderboards. The ones that hit all the right breakpoints will have an edge over other players who don’t understand how it works. That will give an edge to the knowledgeable players.
I just hope that they use this baseline ceiling to collect comparable data for the different builds in order to balance them for S30.
This way all builds would have the same paragon power and the only difference is gear rolls and the baseline build strength.
This makes it even easier to compare the strength of different builds.
However I have my doubts that they will balance anything at all after S29…
The S29 balance changes are like nonexistant and unfortunately quite bad in case of the Crusader.
We cannot jump to that conclusion not even knowing what the seasonal theme is going to provide, now if this change happened to NS or baseline then yeah obviously that would be the result.
Majority of builds feels stable after 3k especially for builds don’t have high DR items like karini or band of might. Low paragon hurts glass canon build/classes such as Raiment Gen etc.
Overall capping paragon too low hurts the game, something 4-6k is not over the top as it’s easily reached in 1-2 months of Grinding. Players need incentives to grind, 800 para is day 1 grind.
