[2.6.10 PTR] Wizard changes

Hi.

summing up feedback from this topic:

Many seasoned wizard players have voiced their concerns regarding the upcoming patch. If this goes live as-is, it’s going to be one of the worst patches we ever received for wizards.

Most of the changes are rather bothersome and detrimental to the class. I’d rather see them not happening. Though, some changes regarding wizards are actually positive:

  • Mantle of Channeling
It’s good that this unnecessary nerf is going to be reverted!
  • Typhon (6) and DMO (6)
While not covering core issue of these sets both buffs are good. Thanks!
  • Fragment of Destiny
I personally don’t like the fact that Spectral Stacks are tied to Hydra instead of all spenders, but the change to all signatures skills is a big win. Thank you for that!
  • Wizardspike and Twisted Sword
Again, personally I find these two a bit questionable - Wizardspike being another weapon is bad for mobility. At least they are buffs we can play with.

Everything else regarding wizards should be reconsidered and removed from the final patch 2.6.10 for the time being. If that leaves some builds/skills underperforming, please consider buffing existing items with damage modifiers instead, like Serpent Sparker for Hydra or Ranslor’s Folly for Twister.

We appreciate that you are willing to do something for the class and buff underperforming skills like Energy Twister. But please, a lot of us see several of the upcoming updates/changes to wizard related items with very mixed feelings, to say the least.

Please take your time to go through all our feedback and find better solutions for items like Winter Flurry and especially Etched Sigil.

Thank you for reading.

Although I upvoted, I have to say that I disagree that wizardspike is a good move. It’s yet another multiplier (good) at weapon slot (not good) while mobility still needs a weapon, AW (really bad).

Let me say this… I’m with you on that one! This is why I wrote that I find this item questionable. At the very least Wizardspike is straightforward and usable with no strings attached. It being yet another weapon is bad, very bad in fact, but it’s clearly not on the same level of weirdness as Winter Flurry. You are correct, I should’ve added this concern to the initial post. Will do that now.

Same with Twisted Sword, also questionable … it’s a buff, but I fear potential lags. Not to mention I don’t like Twisters, but that’s personal taste.

Wizs are dead for me with these changes. The most important thing for 2.6.10 is to get ride of DW and ES buffing all wiz dmg while channeling. This is the top issue for me. How can it be fixed?

  1. Change DW and ES: now only buff channel skills. I would be OK if meteor iremains buffed.
  2. Change AW: give it a big dmg multiplier: 400 (or more) after using teleport for 5 secs. Same mana cost and no ICD.

And then:

  1. New source for Twister with %inc dmg and Raging Storm rune.
  2. FO is in a good place with the changes but I would rather add the new power to the Unstable Scepter than creating a new one. The suggested AW is way more exciting than Wizardspike.
  3. Buff Chantodo and Vyr.
  4. Buff Meteor.

You are so obviously correct, that it saddens me.

I simply don’t think we can get any of that what you mentioned for 2.6.10. We just have what we have now and that will be what we are getting. That said, my goal right now is not getting new ideas through. That won’t happen, it’s most likely too late for that. But it’s not too late to stop the real bad things from happening.

If this goes live as-is (or with nothing but number tweak) then a lot of builds will be ruined. Instead most of the new things are weird and clunky.

Aaaand with the new patchnotes we see where they want to go: Twisters.
Nothing else was changed for us.
As if someone wants to really play this laggy mess. Raxx did one pull and the game was instantly at 1 fps or less lul

whats so bad on adding AW with 400% damage and no icd for teleport? It would just replace the hated channeling skill on the bar with the useful teleport skill and the 4th slot is AW instead of death wish. And then it still needs a net buff. Wizardspike to 1000% or something to be somewhat in the range of DH or Necro

Your OP is totally right, devs should remove everything not in the list. It’s especially annoying the use of the blizzard skill to buff hydra dmg, seriously, eliminate it ASAP.

That’s the point, change channeling for teleport, way better and funny for almost all builds.
I’m not gonna even try to compare wiz to DH or nec. I just wanna have some fun playing wizz and channeling for all is not my idea of fun.

I like the idea. Having to hit teleport even when you want to stay in same place just for a damage boost I feel would get clunky. It would be great for torments though when your constantly moving

Don’t get me wrong now, I would LOVE to see this - but that’s essentially only another band-aid on a band-aid. Such a change to Aetherwalker would turn this wand into Deathwish V2, meaning it will be our new mandatory item for most builds. I’d rather they fix the fundamental issues, that means we desperately need other means to gain better mobility apart from just Teleport + Aetherwalker. Ideally Aetherwalker shouldn’t even exist (Teleport with resource cost or charges as the skill default) or, if they don’t like that, then it has to be one among at least three or four different methods.

But yeah, given that they don’t change Deathwish, then Aetherwalker should be the rival to fight it.

Honestly, both DMO and Typhoon are still underwhelming.

I tried to play Twister with DMO and it is way too squishy and you need an Obsidian in Order to not have to carefully time your bubbles.
LoD is just easier to play in this case.

Thyphoon : While the dmg-buff to the set was nice, the etched sigil change wasn’t. I enjoyed the old playstyle where the channeling-skill automatically casted Black Holes and buffed my dmg.

If i want to play at max efficiency i still have to channel and use deathwish combined wih keeping my Primary-Stacks up, combined with casting blizzard. It feels just more clunky and not much stronger than pre-“buff”.

A simple buff to the Setbonus up to 22k and an increase from Serpent Sparkler from 300 to 500% would have done the job in combination with an DR-Buff to 85-90%.

Instead all focus went to make a playable Energy-Twiser Build …which is not playable because the mechanics are buggged and now need corner-stacking in order to perfom halfway decent.

The only really solid class after all this is the BS-Necro where they did a lot of things right.

400% to AW would be too much. 200-250% would be awesome. as you said with a 5 sec uptime after teleporting (only works with the regular teleport skill, not while in archon)

it should compete with items like DW indeed.
You get a more active playstyle , can jump into occulus rings, avoid dmg more easily, and have a much more viable weapon for speeds and so on…

same with Winter Flurry, it should compete with (the old) ES and function as an alternative option.

for example: you deal +125% dmg to enemies caught in a blizzard. 25% chance to cast a blizzard on hit.

or: you deal 100% increased dmg to chilled enemies, this effect is doubled for frozen enemies.
