little bobby should put that 200m into D3
You both do realize that those layoffs had to do with things other than game development right?
They were also ramping game development up this year as well.
yes but sorry i forgot joking on the internet is a no no
Who knows, instead of spending that money on live events, and esports, maybe they’ll do something crazy, and, I don’t know, spend it to make games. Wouldn’t that be nuts?
sounds nuts to me
They had already been doing it sorta with the virtual ticket the past what 5 or 6 years… So… wasn’t that large of a stretch if you think about it.
Boss takes home big bucks.
Diablo doesn’t even have a FT, or part time, forum worker who actively reads listens posts talks to the community.
0.0001 of 200,000,000 is 20k. 20k is a solid, more than solid, part time job for CA living expenses. You cant dedicate one one-hundreth of a percent of your pre-giant-tax 200 mil to pay someone to care about our opinions daily? This is messed up, and not surprising in 2021. You know brand names matter in the business world, whether they’re “used to be good” or “still good” or w/e, if they’re “known” its a foot in the door. People would do this job for free, to get the experience on there resume obviously, i mean not like adults w mortgages and such but the younger folk who don’t have those responsibilities yet.
That’s part of the problem. Opinions are getting more and more annoying all over the place and to be honest causing more problems than helping. I wouldn’t want to take time to listen to us either. lol
The $200M is completely ridiculous, but also contractually obligated.
The last round of layoffs were worse as they got rid of a bunch of support staff that left us with things like forums without blue posters. Apparently they also hired new people in many of the same spots they let go just a few months later.
In this case laying off esports personnel sucks to be sure, but not entirely surprising given we’ve had a full year of not doing physical events.
and ultimately very little will change so long as they keep boasting record profits.
He can’t even afford a decent tooth whitener…
Assuming he’s like any other CEO, it’s estimated up to 3/4 of an average CEO’s working time is basically taken up with meetings.
Don’t get me wrong, $200M is completely insane as a bonus for ANY one employee. Even if we consider that a good chunk of that is probably stock options.
but I doubt he’s sitting around in his office playing solitaire all day long either.
what is he doing then ? other then not making game’s great , this man is a CEO of a video game’s not Sock’s
think plz
He runs the company, which contrary to Avalon’s post you can’t just tell somebody else to do your job and expect to collect a $200M payday. Not even a CEO gets to do that.
He also doesn’t want to make the games great. He wants to make them as profitable as possible.
and with things like micro-transactions, publishers have figured out that making the best game no longer results in the most profit.
Which is a problem for another thread, really.
OMG we got some little bobby lover’s in chat , i give up . have fun Avalon with them lol
Ah yes, I forgot.
Unless I think he sits around staring at the wall all day I must love him. I automatically love anybody I think actually does work at their job, even as I say the pay is completely insane and undeserving.
As you said: think plz.
@deRp you really don’t have a clue about what CEO’s do do you?
no man !!!
i want one more blizzcon like that 1 … of 2018. especialy, especialy on diablo part.
Anyone care to guess how much of his own money Bobby Kotick put into actiblizz?
I honestly have no problems with companies laying off employees. In the end, that might be needed to stay competitive and do well long-term.
Previous layoff seemed excessive, and as Cyonan mentioned earlier, they apparently ended up hiring for some of the same positions later.
The $200 million bonus on the other hand… That is just sad.
Kotick has proven that he is a pretty good CEO (well, I’ll keep mentioning Guitar Hero however), but nothing justifies that bonus, and even investors should be, and are, slightly angered by it. Not enough to make a difference though.
