Zeal is inconsistently broken

The Zeal Skill shows a very strange behavior. Often (about 80%) it works just fine and it seems it works best against multiple monsters. But against 2 or only 1 Mob the Animation shows different strange behavior most of the time. Sometimes it looks like there’s only a 2 frame Animation and the damage seems higher than normal, sometimes it just does the damage it would do for a single zeal hit (so 4 hits are not calculated).

In other positions it slows down the animation as if I hadn’t any mana left, and the damage is sometimes correct and sometimes pretty low. Also sometimes it combines both behaviors so the animation is way to fast for most of the hits and way to slow for the rest of a zeal series, the damage is sometimes correct and sometimes not.

You can most of the time temporarly solve the issue by repositioning for this particular monster. But it can happen for the next one. This bug makes a zealot very difficult and stressful to play.

PS: sometimes means 20-40% of the time I fight a single monster, not so often against 2. And nearly never against 3 or more monsters.

It feels less broken with certain weapons. With the Gimmershred everything felt off almost every fight. The AzureWrath seemed to have almost zero issues. I used both weapons with lvl24 fanaticism and lvl13 zeal. The AzureWrath is a faster weapon.

With the gimmershred I had a lot of different issues:

  • Very slow or insanely fast animation
  • Missing impact sound coupled with correct damage or no damage
  • Doing normal attack instead of zeal
  • Missing ALL hits because the enemy is probably “too far” (using left click attack without shift). This happened even with enemies that stopped attacking and moving (arch spiders) - in that case I could continue hitting the air forever.

I understand that they can’t fix anything of the bugs, as long as the servers are a mess, but something like a verification that they even read and collect the bugs would be nice.

A more professional company would even talk about a plan to fix some of them, but I understand that a lot is going on in activition blizzard at the moment.

engine issues i’d imagine. something about the way the server interacts with my client, or all clients. either way i’m not even sure the devs know how to fix this one.

Does the original D2 have this issue? Does this bug affect offline games too? I play only online characters.

I never saw those zeal bugs in the old game.

Good question if it’s also in the offline modus. I didn’t try so if someone can it would be a nice information for about next year when or if they try to fix bugs. But till the end of the year they will most probably just fight against the server issues and game stability problems.

PS: I’m quite sure it wasn’t in vanilla D2, because I played zealot for a very long time.

I’ve had this exact same issue since I started playing D2R, months ago. Is there any way to get Blizzard’s attention on this? Zeal is a BIG part of multiple Paladin builds, and indeed this bug weakens the whole build a lot. I rely on Zeal not only for faster attacks, but also for better applying effects to multiple monsters (leech, poison, cold, etc.).

I play offline single player, btw.

It’s clear that, dam and AR aside, you’re only hitting ONE monster and you’re doing so at regular speed. It’s NOT just visual.
