You can now kill cow king!

Okay so i did many hell cow runs and this time i accidently killed the cow king with 1 blizz. Guess what? If you didn’t know, you can re-open cow lvl again! All those times i avoided killing him… xD

This is what I’ve been looking for. Can others confirm this? I don’t want to kill the turd from a possible troll post and get screwed over.

Yep. Can confirm that you can still make a game after killing him.

I’ve killed Cow King multiple times. There’s no penalty anymore.

You also don’t have to complete the difficulty in order to join.

Ok so I killed the cow king and then all of a sudden I can no longer open the secret cow level in nm. So I don’t think you are supposed to kill him. Anyone else locked out of cows??

No, nobody is.

To open the Cow portal you need to do the same thing for each difficulty level.

  1. Kill Baal
  2. Combine a tome of town portal and Wirts Leg in the cube
  3. Kill cows
  4. Repeat
  5. Profit

Next difficulty level you need to kill Baal again to open the portal.

I wouldn’t kill him no matter what. Remember the Cold Mastery thing? People found out in D2r Cold mastery can lower cold immunity and then Blizzard secretly reversed that.

so you think they’re going to randomly reverse the cow king decision and make it no longer accessible to people that have killed the cow king? good joke

Without knowing if its a bug or intended its difficult to say.

We know it’s not a bug because they announced prior to release that you no longer got locked out of creating cows when you killed the king.

The chants for #no changes die pretty quickly when it’s a change people like. Seems like it’s not really about preserving authentic d2 experience.

Being able to kill CK / Pindle’s portal staying open are part of the few QoL changes officially introduced / documented by the devs themselves, though. They’re not going back on that, these are actual conscious QoL tweaks, not accidents.

So I was able to kill the cow king and continue to make the cow levels. Then all of a sudden I can no longer make the cow levels. Has it changed to where you get locked out when you kill cow king now? Or is it a bug that I can not longer make the cow level? Thanks for your help!

There isn’t a bug. What difficulty are you trying to do it on?

Usually what happens is you got the wrong Wirts Leg. You probably have the nightmare or normal one, if so the name is in red and you just need toget a new one.

Yep, and also drop the other one before you attempt to pick up a different variation.

I tried it, you can’t pick up multiple legs from different difficulties. The game won’t let you have more than one in your inventory at once.
