PS: Was also wondering why people look for mage plates, its not the best armor out there as far as I can tell. Am I missing something?

Mage plate is only 55 strength and light armor, it’s the enigma base for those who want to invest as little strength as possible. With torch, anni, enigma strength bonus you should have enough for monarch requirement without putting any in naturally
What’s 3os archon plate worth?
Pul-Um probably, more if it’s ED
Hey Gung. Thanks for the explanation but I think Im still missing something here. If I have enough strength to carry a monarch, wouldn’t I have enough strength to wear an Archon Plate, why would I want to go for a Mage Plate instead?
coz the enigma adds a lot of str to you…
just google an image of it
Assume 20 strength from torch, anni and your char base strength each, you have 60. Monarch is 156, where do you get the other 96 from? Maybe some from other pieces of gear but you will still be short likely 70. You either manually put this in and lose vitality, or you equip Enigma runeword for the 0.75 strength per lvl, up to like 74 at lvl 99.
So if you use Enigma you don’t have to invest any strength, then what do you want as a base? Something weareable from just your 60 strength base + maybe 20 from other gear without enigma. This is why mage plate and duskshroud are popular choices, fits within the strength range and being light armor
Oh, thats very insightful. Thank you!
enigma adds a ton of strength. mage plate is great for sorcs who want to save those points to spend on vitality and energy. necros as well, i believe, although i don’t play those. it’s also good for assassins and amazons who would rather put those points into dexterity without spending so many points to get the base strength to carry a monarch shield. basically any class build that doesn’t get it’s damage from Strength can use those points elsewhere to greater effect.
barbs and paladins generally don’t care because Str is a straight up damage boost for them so they’re going to have way more than they need anyway.(except hammerdin, i don’t think their damage comes from str either)
so we doing the trade or hahha
Hey Black, sorry I completely missed your post. I think I’ll hang onto it for a little while more. Thanks!
