Seriously… make the game more accessible while at the same time dividing the player base/alienating console players.
Is there any talk of making cross platform at least an option?

Outside of minor patches here and there for under the hood stuff, this game has been largely dead in the water development wise ever since Diablo 4 was released. I doubt there will be any more major updates for this game anytime soon.
As far as cross play not being part of the game, I’m willing to bet there are some logistic reasons why they didn’t enable it. Probably something to do with the client/server setup, and maybe it wasn’t fully compatible with how XBOX/Sony/Nintendo has their client/servers set up. (They may very well have looked into it and found out it wasn’t feasible, or it may have been possible with some but not others and decided to just not do cross play for all.)
Idk how it is on the xbox and ps, but at least on switch, games only go up to p4 so I’ve always figured there’s some limitations at least on the switch. Crossplay would be perhaps awesome but admittedly at least in my fam, I stopped playing on PC and my wife son and I just play on the switch together instead so the update ultimately wouldn’t change anything for us lol
The game loads the online characters directly from Battle.net. If you have PS+/XBL you can play on PC, go to the living room and enjoy some couch D2R with the same character you played while on the PC. It’s most likely that each platform does have their own servers for actually hosting the player once loaded from Battle.net. It’s still a global game though, so at least you’re getting players from all over the world for your platform.
D2R’s kind of a mashup of limitations with a few QoL features when it comes to multi-platform support (as noted by the aforementioned requirement to have PS+/XBL to load a Battle.net character).
3 things I can think of. For Switch specifically, it is limited to 4 players. That would obviously cause a problem with other platforms. The other is that there is no way to type on console. That is needed to play with PC players. Finally, Sony is always difficult about doing crossplay. If you don’t recall, a few years ago they said they don’t allow crossplay because Playstation is “the best place to play.” So, 3 issues here probably led them to just say screw it. Could they overcome these issues? Sure. However, that costs money and would have caused delays.
This would save alot of hardcore players that cant find a game on xbox. Im sure that there would be downsides
I don’t understand these posts, the game is dead… cross platform? talk about it? what?
