no one wanted act 3 to no longer be rushable. It’s the worst act. So big. So boring. He says he wants us to experience it and not skip it. The people skipping it have already seen it 1,000 times. How does making a rush longer enhance the gameplay experience? Now instead of sitting in town for 10 second I’m going to sit in town for a few minutes waiting for 3 different tps. I will continue to rush my alts and skip it the same way I have for years, it’ll just take a little longer. People that are soloing it or playing ladder start and want to play it the correct way were able to before and were completely unaffected. Which begs the question, who does this change appeal to? Who will this affect? The people affected will be the people being rushed, who are just standing in town, and now they will stand in town longer? Why would they want that? Seems like a change in seek of a reason for existing.
Reminds me of the mentality of a lot of modern game developers who think that all gamers should enjoy a game exactly the same way that they do. If you find fun in the game in a way they didn’t intend, they program that fun gameplay style out of the game. Seen it happen with several newer games. Players find some unique and fun ways to play, but that’s not how the developer envisioned people playing the game, so they patch it out even though the majority of players were enjoying it. “You can have fun but only if it’s exactly how I want you to have fun.”
Diablo 2 was the opposite of this! Alot of aspects of this game that people have loved, weren’t done on purpose. Example would be smite. It was intended to be based off of attack rating like all other melee abilities. However due to an error in code it acts like a spell, and always hits. If this weren’t the case smite would probably be an underwhelming ability. However, people enjoyed this, so it was never fixed.
I’m really not that worked up about it. I just don’t get why.

Sorry for using an alt. Got too many accounts.
Well maybe, and I am saying maybe, classic won’t be affected by this change.
One extra reason to have a classic rusher.
But I agree, the change won’t make the game more difficult, just more annoying.
Players still have the choice to complete act 3 following the questline on current patch; if they don’t, most likely is because they don’t want.
That is not true.
It is good if they get rid of rushing exploits. Even if there are plenty left that should be addressed.
If the act is boring, then that is what should have changed (although it might be a biiit late for that).

You would be hard pressed to find a player that has been playing any substantial amount of time that supports this. Should act 3 have been more interesting in its tile placement? Yeah. The game wasn’t perfect. Act 3 is an example of that.
Hard to call it an exploit saying it’s intrinsic to the game at this point. Anyone calling it that is not a long time player, and just recently discovered the game. Remember this is a remaster not a remake, this game has had a community that was alive for over 20 years for a reason.
My point still remains. How does eliminating this benefit anyone? Who wants this? How does it improve the gameplay? A large portion of the community will continue to rush eachother. It will simply take longer. How does this negatively impact the person that does not wish to skip the act in any perceivable way? Seems like it exist merely as an inconvenience.
How many people have thought while being rushed “Man, I wish that I had to stand in town longer.”

It is a bit weird, like ok so act1 you can go straight to Andy, Act 4 straight to Diablo, Act 5 straight to ancients and Baal, but suddenly somehow act 3 needs to be experienced fully? Just baffling all around.

So how about we just delete all the zones from Act 3 except for Travincal and Durance of Hate as a QOL, would you prefer if they did that?
edit: Sorry if this was rude

No. Because then people wouldn’t be able to play them if they wanted to. Like they already can. Again. Why? The change appeals to no one. If you want to play it, you can.
I’ve heard alot of recommendations of changes to the game from players of the original in the last two decades. But I never once heard anyone wish that rushing through act 3 was eliminated.

So would you prefer if we were allowed to take a TP straight to Arcane Sanctuary so we could go to Duriel?

That’s a ridiculous suggestion and you know it
And act 2 is/was fine as the “annoying long act even for rushing”, we don’t need 2 of them

So was that done intentionally by design?
Idk, yeah I’d agree this Change was a bit weird. Like why now after 20+ years add this? I played through act 3 completely my first time playing d2r again, but every single time?
What is the purpose of this though really
If this change doesn’t happen, how does it negatively affect you as a player. Genuinely curious. You are able to play through the act the way you want to right now.
How does preventing others from skipping something they don’t want to play affect you in anyway whatsoever. This isn’t new. It’s been this way since the game came out. Why no complaints and now suddenly its an issue.

I just think it adds to the integrity of the game knowing every character in Hell mode had to put in the effort to go through all the quests and acts.
I think its similar to how the game was before respecs. If I was playing in a game with a throw Barb (for example), I knew this dude took a massive risk and took the time and dedication to properly skill up his throw Barb. His character is a work of Art to me.
Now I couldn’t give a rats a** if some guy has a throw barb, yeah yeah you respeced at the last second and followed a guide, big deal.
I know people naturally want the path of least resistance so I understand why you guys are annoyed by this change.

so your calling us a wave of electricity ? o.o thats fine…gotta be quick as lightning ofc…why do it when can go around ? especially when its been done a few thousand time
I’m not sure why they made this change either. The people that are currently rushing their chars for Larzuk or the next difficulty will still continue doing so. It will just take quite a bit more time and be far more annoying. Meanwhile those that actually play the act and like to experience it fully will not be affected at all. A strange change to make that only risks upsetting people and not benefitting anyone. A better way to make people want to experience all the acts regularly is to simply add more 85 areas, which they are going to do. That would have been enough I feel.
Sorry, what are we referring to in this thread someone?
Currently a rusher can just do Trav and Meph to get the rushee through act 3.
In upcoming patch they are changing it so the rusher has to find/collect the 3 body parts and have the rushee create the completed khalim flail and smash compelling orb to get through the act. Basically just adds needless minutes to a process that everyone is okay with and thinks is fine, for no real or good reason that I could tell.
It would be like them changing act 1 so you must do blood raven, and Countess, and horadric malus, in order to kill Andariel and finish the act. Or changing act 4 so you must do Izual and Hellforge before you can kill Diablo and progress. It’s needless and weird especially for experienced players who have gone through these acts hundreds if not thousands of times.

Well as much as I don’t like it, it is more consistent with a2, which you need to go and get all that staff crap first.

the OG devs did the same thing when they added in requirements for finishing the 2nd to last quest in act 2/3/5 before you could go to the boss. A bug let you skip something that was supposed to keep you from going to meph without smashing the orb. They are fixing the exploit i don’t really see a problem with it.
If i have to choose between them fixing no bugs and all bugs i would pick all bugs so i am for this change if it means they fix more bugs in the end.

Yeah this is the dumbest thing. Literally no one wanted this. They said they’d do things based on community feedback. This makes no sense.
