Can’t you put it in a Colossus Blade?

Ethereal Executioner sword can work for lower level too but they’re not that good due to high requirements, probably best to use CB with high level merc.

Cant do either - dual wielding a5 mercs can only wield 1 hand swords, only the non dualwielder can use 2handers.

And thats why. Balance. 6 socket cryptics with unbending will would be easy to make. CB CS Balrog blades would also be to OP.

Its why im pretty sure they will never make axe ones. Beast, beast merc with beast beast barb gives a lot of fanatasism.

I find it so bad that they give us a “stepping stone” runeword and then lock it behind Phase Blade with terrible damage or Colossus Blade with gigantic requirements. Like, good luck finding either of these early on. It should’ve been 4 sockets and possibly Axes/Maces as well.

A stepping stone which beats every unique that dominated the game for decades.

I guess that’s true in a way, but Unbending Will doesn’t actually have much going for it. It’s flat damage, no crushing blow, deadly strike, open wounds or anything else. But then since you brought that up, Blizzard buffed the monsters health pools and stuff way, way back and the melee damage or weapons was never really compensated in that. I’d say buff the low/mid set weapons and buff low/mid unique weapons.

What’s your thoughts on Grief? It’s by far the best melee weapon, “dominating” and nothing is even remotely close.

Grief requires a Lo, and then Lo and behond it is the best by a bajiliion miles. Flat dmaage is king - UW has IAS and flat damage, so your leeches are endless, and it costs nothign mroe than a Fal! a Fal! a Fal you normally throw at that elderly neighbour who looked at you wrong, a Fal you fight passed to get the ever more valuable pocket tinsel.

I agree the UW isnt BiS, but it is very good. Taunt makes it worse though - there inlies the balance.

Cant beat Grief - not in a month of sundays.

Yes but Act 5 frenzy barb can only use 1h swords

Flat damage is very good, yes, but I’m just saying that’s the only thing it has. Like compare it to Crescent Moon as an example, CM has lower ED% but then has a static field proc and open wounds. For the cost that is low, it’s very good, I would’ve just prefered if it was slightly more accessible early ladder. I’d trade away a bit of ED% for better accessibility personally.

When I asked about Grief, that was like a separate discussion/question. Grief costing Lo+Mal is quite cheap, especially when it’s by far the best weapon. Then compare that to Last Wish which in my opinion, is a way cooler weapon but also the most expensive. Cost doesn’t necessarily always reflect the strength of a runeword.

Why are You so mad in love with swords ? Hey why don’t we make all runewords possible for swords While You ask for those sockets!?

*Swords already have the Best melee runewords pool

  • 2h swords can be dw by barbs
*2h swords are the ONLY 2h weapon that reach maximum 4fpa with WW. (They are treated as 1h weps) .
*Their requirements are not on par with their bonuses.
  • Swords are faster than most other weps…

Like WTF . Stop the absurd sword love and give some love to other weapons .

everything is 4,5,6 socket rune word is just so bad deleting so much weapon in the game

good runeword suppose to be 3 socket

back in 1.09 the best rune word use to be fury and is 3 socket

let hope the next best runeword will be 3 socket

I suppose i do have a bit of a blinkered view as i only play frenzy barb - but flat damage is king. Once you are going for ubers, you may wish to have an offhand with crushing blow and open wounds on, but that doesnt stop you needing flat damage to stay alive.

Crescent moon only sounds good - it isnt that good in practice. UW would outperform it.

I suppose much of it comes down to class and build. Your crescent moon is trash against light immunes though :frowning:

To respond to the sword love person above - i agree we could have more variety. Namely 6 socket Scourges, with scourges able to make use of Lawbringer. Diversify those bases!

The reason why I’m a bit more interested in crushing blow and open wounds is because I’m very interested in like ladder starters, budget builds etc. As Tim Gunn says: “make it work”. Like, a couple of days ago I did a playthrough as Fireclaws Werebear Druid since I’ve never tried it before and I’m just rocking a Black Flail and I got to Stony Tomb Hell. Whenever I encountered a Fire immune there which is somewhat rare, the crushing blow would still smack them down quite okay and then together with my pets, it wasn’t too slow to kill it. So with the “make it work” in these scenarios, you just gotta use the things you get, like an Um and your first Phase Blade becomes 3 sockets from random socketing it. I’d just make Crescent Moon even though it’s not the best, just to get something going, you know? I know that static’s doesn’t do anything against lightning immunes, but open wounds will still tick on them so not too bad still.

@visbaluz
I’m really not mad in love with swords. Personally I wouldn’t mind if Unbending Will was Axes or Maces only. If we were to compare the amount of possibilities of runewords in weapon bases, swords would by far be the highest and no, I don’t like that. My favorite class is Assassin and Claw runewords would be at the bottom of that list. My favorite unique in this game is a mace, Stormlash.
