Why is there ANOTHER Profanity Filter for D2R that can't be turned off?

BNET already has a profanity filter, which at least has the option to be turned on/off.

So why does Blizzard feel like they need another profanity filter in D2R that can’t be turned on/off? Or is this a bug where the BNET profanity filter isn’t working for D2R (in which case I would make a bug report)?

I’m not 2 years old and I don’t need Blizzard pretending they’re my mother and holding their hands over my dainty little ears to protect me from all the “bad” words. What is going on here?

Yall making such a big deal out of literally nothing. It doesn’t hurt you, it doesn’t kill you, it doesn’t stop you from communicating with others. They aren’t taking away your freedoms, blah blah blah

It’s Blizzard system. They want a chat filter. End of story.

Don’t like it? Get over it. Or use a 3rd party voice chat.

You shouldnt be cussing. Why on earth would you cuss?

Here are some alternatives:
Find me in the alps!
Bloody hell!
Frack the gulf!
Barnacles!
You son of a bee keeper!
Holy shiba inu!
Crap baskets(for those of you who like TFS)

Everyone lets help this poor man out and give him more alternatives.

They don’t want the in-game coding to be learning profane wordings.
It’s another safety protocol; which Blizzard properly implemented.

That is my understanding of the in-game profanity filter.

  • Be well.

Every single other Blizzard game has a profanity filter you can toggle. For how much you whine about this game on here I’m surprised you’re defending Blizzard here.

I’m not defending anyone or anything. It’s just funny to see people making such a large commotion over literally nothing.

Maybe they overlooked it and it’s a mistake? Maybe it was intentional? The only people that truly know is Blizzard. It’s probably an issue that is extremely low on their list of problems.

Again though. A chat filter has 0 impact on anything.

Maybe because people should be able to say what they want when there’s no way for it to hurt anyone? “They aren’t taking away your freedoms” (while taking away freedoms of speech), looks like Twitter lost someone from its woke echo-chamber of self-validation.

It’s called freedom of speech (let alone freedom of speech IN PRIVATE) and no this is intended, how naïve to think it’s not considering it’s the first Blizzard game since the incident (and what they did to WoW).

Also an unfiltered chat on my end has 0 impact on others if others have their language filter activated. There is no valid reasons to remove the option to language filter.

Pretty sure your chat logs on the server are saved.
Probably in the Tos somewhere about the comms, filter etc.
Basically renting the spot online for a one time fee.

While I have no love for filters Freedom of Speech doesn’t hold water here.

How about not turning this into a political debate? But I’m sick of this line of argument. It’s a private company, they can do whatever they want? Yes, so what? Does that make it right? And why would you defend it? It’s a terrible take.

Didn’t turn this into a political debate. I also said I don’t care for filters, how is that defending.

People scream Freedom of speech online is a terrible take, it shows lack of understanding and weakens the argument.

You could’ve let it go, you didn’t, hence turning it into a political debate and also defending Blizzard from valid criticism.

Let me stop you before you take issue with “valid criticism” (because I know you’re going to… zzz…). It is valid because we’re talking about very basic human rights that should extend to the public forum of the internet, and just because companies are legally allowed to ignore them online and there’s no one to make laws for the internet, doesn’t make it right.

There is no lack of understanding, everyone knows what’s going on, it’s just that some people realise that what’s going on is wrong, that’s the difference. And saying “weakens the argument” is a great way of dismissing something because you don’t have anything substantive to say, which isn’t surprising.

Edit: If you’re actually against filters, how about you stop caring about the “free speech” commentary and start complaining about the profanity filter like the rest of us?

Okay okay… this comment right here just made you lose all credibility.

Especially this part. The bill of rights does not protect your freedoms against a gaming company. The bill of rights governs the government. Meaning, it limits the power of governments (federal, state, local) that take away your freedoms.
Ex: freedom of speech. So again, the constitution doesn’t protect you against technology companies.

Especially when said company is enforcing their own policies while you’re using THEIR platforms/systems. Maybe you should have paid attention way back in school.

Also, you pretty much signed all your “rights” away when you made your account and agreed to all of Blizzard’s user agreements.

Read above…

Thank you Captain Obvious.

And I’ve already addressed every single thing you just said in a previous comment. None of which is a good reason to actually have a forced profanity filter in game.

And saying I lost all credibility, doesn’t mean I lost all credibility, you just didn’t like what I said, probably because it was true.

No, you lost credibility because you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to constitutional rights, but you want to throw them out there in your defense, when 100% invalid.

They didn’t have to post an ammendment, by putting that in they made it political. You could of ignored my post but you didn’t.

This doesn’t change anything, acting like you are one step ahead in this manner only attempts to close communication. If I respond I can’t take criticism but if I don’t exercise my ability to speak on a forum…you win and have proven a point?

Not public, this is a private forum.

‘It might be legal and in the interest of the company but I don’t like it.’

So you all understand saying freedom of speech means nothing and get corrected on multiple subjects is understanding?

Having a business choose what they want and don’t is wrong? Freedom extends as far as it fits for you? Do you go into McDonald’s and scream and swear around three year olds and get upset when staff tells you to stop? I mean it’s not right for them to exercise their rights, right?

I put out I don’t care for them. Trying to appeal to Blizzard makes more sense than just posting an ammendment. Voice your feelings in a constructive way that makes sense.

So here is a retort to the filter,

Blizz you are a bunch of chickens for this filter, censoring words doesn’t negative meanings, you lily livered fiends.

My pul for shako anyone?

“Not public, this is a private forum”, try reading, I said “public forum of the internet”, every single thing on the internet is considered private, that’s the problem… I was alluding to the de facto “public space”. So, thank you for “correcting me” when all you’re doing is failing to understand the dialogue.

People failing to understand the difference between “freedom” and “constitutional freedom” never fails to disturb me.

Anyway, I don’t really care to reply to the rest of your nonsense so I’ll leave it here.
