Why is ladder race to 99?

what a point of a ladder first one to level 99 wins. For ladder ends as quick as the season started. Which is lame in my mind. Base ladder on experience gianed not first to 99. Wouldnt think would be so hard to base ladder on total gain experience. Keep first to 99 in ladder but have a tab total exp gain in season also ranked in ladder. But that a change I would like to seen years and years and years ago. For the battle of the ladder not who can get the time off or the good drugs to play the most in a few days. Just my thoughts.

Normal average working class people can’t even participate in this mode because it’s instantly dominated by twitch no lifers within days… it’s a pointless waste of time essentially… people who monetize their game play are the only one’s benefiting from it.

Used to be a prize at the end of the rainbow but now its just a rank.

Play the game on switch or on console. Its easy to actually maintain a lead on the leaderboards

A leaderboard will always be dominated by people who spend more time with it lol
Nobody forces you to have your lifestyle, frustared by it you maybe need to change something.

It was conceived in 2000 remember that and it wasn’t nearly as hard then as it is now.

You gain no XP after 99. Even if they change that, you don’t get any benefits and most people prefer to level the next character that still benefits from xp.

It would be a useless change. You can play classic ladder, because 99 in one season is pretty much not really doable.

This isn’t really true. I used to play another game where the leaderboard was ranked by average performance. I would see plenty of people with 5-10x more games played than me, ranking way lower.

While it’s true you have to put some time in to “get good” at anything, just pouring endless amounts of hours into something does not necessarily make you better. In fact in my experience, the people that did were almost always quite mediocre at the game.

For Diablo 2, I’m unsure what the best PvM “performance” stat could be. Perhaps completion speed for the Pandemonium Event.

Ladder was fun for me because every item dropped felt important again, builds felt like significant choices early on, and the community was hoppin’.

As for the goal to 99, this is probably my least favorite aspect of the ladder. It used to involve parking your butt in Baal’s Throne room for endless hours before TZ.

So if someone gets to 99 first I’m not heavily impressed. It is noteworthy to possess the knowledge to grind appropriate areas with appropriate builds, but this was all mapped out long ago.

There are many reasons to play ladder, for me getting to 99 isn’t one of them. I have Elden Ring, Naraka, Minecraft, Forza, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, Assassins Creed, RDR2, Skyrim or MtG Arena / Gwent / Runeterra I could be playing.

Even beating Witcher 3 for the 5th time is better than joining Baal games for countless hours. Pass.

In North America alone nearly 2.5M people are playing ladders, and players like you and me will never win, only the streamers, and those that are associated with them will enter in the top 100 as they play non stop in 8 man groups. This is the reason that there are so many requests to have a difficulty scale in online play. The point of Ladders is to have fun creating a new character, try new builds, play new content exclusive to season only, and again to have fun. I enjoy playing the new content in seasons, but I NEVER play with the expectation to place in any kind of ranking

I mean however you want to call that, what is performance in d2r? ofc puttin in 10k hours doesnt make you good automatically but still it comes hand in hand if you want to be good. Take chess for example, performance there will also come with time unless you born as autist with mad ahead planning skills.
It depends on the leaderboard system, if the win/lose ration matters, sure you have a better ranking if you won 90 out of 100 than someone who won 1000 out of 2000. Still doesnt mean you better. Doesn’t work that way in PvM leaderboads.
The top players will always spend more time with a game, it’s not regular that someone who spend little time is performing better than someone who spend basically his 50h+ a week.

How would you like to measure “performance” in d2r? Speedrun leaderboards are always open and offline and you can actually show how well you do compared to the streamer, they need good performance and knowledge
Even tho I don’t care doodoo for these streamer, I hate when people always act like these streamers that will be on top dont perform well. They do excellent in this game, only the help of their community will not automatically put them on top. They actually socialise compared to many other that cry around for p8 and ssf ladder and saying d2 is not a social game lol.

Basically speedrunning, I mean at some point when you compete with high skilled people it’s up to rng differences of map and not that much a matter of skill anymore. Also, it would also be super boring. If the goal in a ladder is the race to 99 then speed is the thing you need. Do whatever that game let you do to achieve it first, it’s simple as f.

Everyone should enjoy this ladder as they want and not blame other people and make them look bad for not beeing able to be there and not having what they got. If anyone is frustrated they should check for mistakes on themselfs.

aaand another one knowing what everyone does for a living

Yeah you can’t handle the truth is all… also, nice flag, whiner. LOL go back to your mom’s apron bud.

frustration…

Wow what an absolute cry baby…

There is certain limitation in code for amount of xp.

It was the only decent delayed milestone. Even after 99 the game really isn’t over. There really isn’t anything you’re racing towards. Technically you beat the game once you’ve beaten act 5 hell which would be an even sooner milestone.

Anyone can participate. Those that have the time to dedicate go further. You wouldn’t be able to play in world cup without practice nor would you win a CSGO tournament without it. The race to 99 even with TZ IMO isn’t worth the effort. Same previously and was a waste of time.
