Why Even Have Ladders At This Point

Why do we even have ladders with no new content or mechanical changes? What is the point? If Blizzard is just going to let D2R die off, why not open the game to the modding community and let them keep it going?

For legitimate players, a fresh start.

For everyone else, a fresh new market to sell botted items to noob wallet warriors.

Also, D2:R is a buy one time, play “forever” game. It obviously wasn’t going to be updated and new content added until the end of time. If you’re bored of it, go play something else for a while. If you get the itch to play again later on, then come back and play it some more.

Yeah. Idk man. You do you(?)

ofc NO!

forum craft is better than this sh… game, I enjoy forum craft more

Why does D2R have to be a buy one time “play forever game”? I am not suggesting core gameplay changes to the game, but something fresh would be fine. Terror zones were false hope, but an enjoyable addition to the game. I can’t imagine anyone that is a true D2 fan would be upset by some new content in the game. To each their own I guess.

… Because it is? Do you pay a monthly subscription for the game? No, you don’t.

Terror Zones gave an option to break away from the Baal/Chaos run monotony that was basically required to get up to 99 in a somewhat reasonable time frame. Keep in mind, they are an option, as in you don’t have to run them… You can even disable them.

Now if Blizzard wanted to sell an expansion for this game, that’d be fine with me. I’d probably opt not to purchase it, because they’d very likely spin in more D3/D4 garbage mechanics.

My argument is opening it up to the community for modding. PD2 has done incredible things for the OG game. If Blizzard doesn’t want to do anything to continue the game, why not just let us have it. I never mentioned xpacs, or a monthly sub, but if they wanted to run seasonal mechanics and have a store page similar to PoE, who could possibly be upset with that? Blizzard is too smooth brain at this point to come up with any decent seasonal mechanics, but it would be better than the same gameplay loop since 2001

The game has limited modding options already… No multiplayer though, so that does suck.

I do believe the underground community is hard at work trying to solve the issues to create a way for the game to be fully mod-able with multiplayer, so it’s only a matter of time until what you seek becomes a reality. It will happen one way or another. My guess is it will require you to have copies of both the OG and D2:R.

My brother in Christ, what are you even talking about

The most fun I had playing the game was trading through traderie. This forum gold jsp bs is rather soulless. I just feel like I’m giving all my items away lol.

He says it’s already possible to play modded D2R in LAN multiplayer… just not the current patch only early 2,4 and not on outdated hardware, as the AVX patch is not applied on the LAN enabled version… Long story short You can play moded D2R with friends or deicated communities like right now… the way you mod the game is up to your heart’s content, just make sure others use the same mod and you don’t need blizz to lay a finger

The core of D2R is locked from modding, unlike OG, and that is the current issue. I am sure there is a way to “jailbreak” the files, but there is still no reason why Blizzard couldn’t support the modding community on a game that has already generated its threshold 2x. If nothing else, the community would give them good ideas for features moving forward in their other titles. They are clearly incapable of generating anything worth while in the Diablo franchise. Even D4 has literally become D3.5 memes aside.

Since D2:R is largely a “graphics wrapper” for the original game anyway, it would be nice if Blizzard created an option to run the OG with the D2:R overlay.

It looks like the topic has transitioned from “Why have ladders” to “Why doesn’t Blizzard allow full mod support”.

sorry I dont play this game anymore.

You’re forgetting the most annoying part. Without any additional updates, the current ladder only RWs will never cycle to NL. The game is frozen in time with ladders that don’t matter and offer nothing new, like it was for decades prior to D2R. Call it laziness and apathy from Blizzard, because it is.

If not for those options, how would this

be happening?
As has been pointed out before:

Go to a modding forum and take sekscalibure/Anu$ with you, everyone will be happy.

Like I also mentioned, stash tabs, cosmetics, portal effects; similar to PoE…

dude what are you bablling about original d2 and LoD were “locked” within .mpq archives and you neded mpq extractor plus a file list bowadays it’s just a different archive type called .casc it’s desingned with ssd drives in mind and with the way patches are applied ( since this download and patch system does fragment the files a bit on the drive, so that the file access remains fluent despite fragmentation) ssd drives still struggle with random read/write speeds a.k.a when files are fragmented, hence .casc archive replaced the mpq archive mpqs were used in hard disk drive era hdds when fragmented could be defragmented and you were good to go, unfortuneatly defragmenting an ssd would literally kill it. hence casc archives are used…

and yes there’s Ladik’s casc viewer to open casc archives…

as for modding you still can use -direct -txt commandline parameters to run mods, however that requres all 40GB+ of data to be extracted… so modders discovered when you use a properly prepared mod with -mod -txt without the “-direct” parameter you only need the nessecary mod files extracted and the rest wil be read from the casc archive… there’s a guy on yt HighTech_LowIQ that explains everything in deail about D2R mod structure, and somewhat about mod making…
