Why don't they make a new D2 expansion?

Titan quest got new expansions 10 plus years after launch.

Why can’t classic blizzard franchises like Diablo2?

Look at how Microsoft has managed age of empires. Once ABK is owned by Microsoft I would hope Microsoft has plans to expand on Diablo 2, even 3 with further expansions ! What would you like to see added ?

Because they moved onto d3, then immortal then d4…? Titan quest is barely going for #2 in the series so sounds like it is obvious why they continued to release expansions up to now…

Compare d2r sales vs d3, immortal and d4…this wasn’t even a triple A costing game… the whole business point for blizz was to acquire talent from vv to work on immortal & d4… beyond that there are so many issues with trying to continue an expansion when we know what happened post worldstone to d3…

Plus what happens when you hit “g” when you’re in act 6? Are these cheapstake d2r product managers going to pay art folks to mimic the d2 sytle or is the screen going to be black?

Microsoft has moved on from age of empires 2 to 3 to 4 yet they have gone back and added more and more expansions to 2,3 and mythology many years after the new title.

ABK titles will be under great care and respect with Microsoft! I can’t wait.

They can, its just the management in the company is kind of not in touch with gaming at all. They are blinded by the greed of earning more and more with minimal effort.

i can see an epilogue being added to the game but nothing beyond that lore wise

I would also like them to add some areas and quests in Act 4. Assets are already there and it’s well know that it’s content was cutted due to production issues.
Would love to see more Hell, won’t lie.

It’d be a perfect opportunity for them to add at least one quest for in-game references for runewords and cube recipes… A side quest that brings a bit of QoL.

Add a dungeon to either the Outer Steppes or the Plains of Despair, which you must retrieve the lost Horadrim “Tome of Knowledge”, which was stolen by the hordes of Hell. Bring it back to Cain, who will transcribe it for you, granting reference to cube recipes and runewords. To keep it relevant to the difficulty of completion, normal would grant low level runewords, nightmare would grant mid-tier runewords and hell would grant the remaining high tier runewords. The same goes for cube recipes.

do the aforementioned games have continuously updating ladders as well? im not versed in titan quest or age of empires. it may make the difference. of course, its not a sound argument, the game had balance adjustments before LoD came out, but they were comparable to the updates we get now in size. but generally speaking, d2 never got NEW content after the expansion. of course, there were more runewords, as we get now, and they added ubers too post-expansion, but none of the content was NEW, just reusing pre-existing stuff and adding more items which is what we already get.

an expansion would be interesting, but its scary depending on whos developing for it. if the team that made mosaic and hustle and metamorphosis are the ones doing it, i will have pretty poor expectations.

but if this was some nice expansion filled with QoL, new areas, even if its not an entire new act, new monsters, new bosses, more soft coding of stuff in the game for modders, etc, and not just huge gameplay altering changes like items or skill balancing, etc, then i could get behind it.

Microsoft will do this game right. They don’t abandon a game with live service/reoccurring player interest

Maybe 5 years from now, after the fallout of what’s now known as blizzard, they might decide to revive d2r again

add a 1x2 “never ending tome of identify”, a 1x2 “never ending tome of town portal” and a 1x1"skeleton key" and we are good to go
