Why does swapping weapons change my selected skill?

I keep dying hilariously, because I weapon swap to MF gear just before killing a boss, but then it also changes my selected skill to Teleport, so I teleport straight into the boss instead of casting the spell I had selected. Why does it change skills when all I’m pressing is weapon swap? It happens regardless of the setting “Weapon Swap Separate Skill Buttons” under Gameplay.

it’s always reverted to whatever skills you last used for the weapon selection.

But idk anything about this new setting you’re talking about. Maybe it’s not related? Maybe separate skills means you can assign different skills to the same keys. ie f1 is smite on one, and f1 is holy shield on the other weapon choice.

That’s what I’m guessing it’s for, but the binding texts stay when swapping weapons, regardless of the setting. I guess they just mirror it when you flick it on, and then you can change the mappings? Either way, I’d very much like an option to turn that off. I already have bindings for my skills. I don’t want it to change my skill to whatever random one I last used when I used my other weapon. That only makes sense as QoL for a character with weapon sets specifically tailored to two specific skills…which is neat…just not for my build or gear, or normal gameplay without those specific needs. I guess I’ll just have to learn to work with it.

i’m guessing you’re swapping into an occy or ali babba right?

Is it possible to just swap to occy, set the skills oyu want, then do your run? I guess i’m kinda confused as to why teleport is the last thing you used when swapping back into it for the boss kill.

Switching to Gull dagger and a Rhyme shield (trudging along here, hehe). I don’t always change back from MF immediately, especially if I need to get out of there quickly, which I usually do, so Teleport is just often the last used skill on the MF gear.

Then why would it be anything other than what you used last…? I’m confused now.

each weapon has skills selected independently if you leave your mf weapon on an attack skill and only ever change your main weapon it wont switch it to teleport. so just try to leave your mf weapon whatever your main attack is.

this is under the controller settings in gameplay, it only changes what happens when playing with a controller.

i think the best thing you can do is just slow down a tad and make sure you have the skill you want qued. Gonna save you some time and a lot of xp in the long run.

Very true and good point!

I’m also running into fighting lag at times, where I tap a keybind to change to a skill and then quickly rightclick to cast it, it casts the previous skill I had selected, even though my UI clearly shows that I’ve already switched skill. I think this is because it has to register and report back from the server that I changed my skill, before it actually counts as my current skill, so if I rightclick too quickly, my skill hasn’t changed on the server yet, so it casts my previously selected skill, even though my client UI is already showing the newly selected skill. That’s very annoying. Seeing a bunch of lag with teleporting and invisible mobs, as well…sigh. And I have great internet here. I guess I’m an SP summerchild who needs to calm down when playing online XD

because it’s the only logical way? imagine playing a hybrid class that uses different weapons on switch for certain skills and then it forces you to rebind it every time you swap

What? I’m not talking about rebinding keys. I’m talking about it changing the currently selected skill when you press Weapon Swap. I’d rather have to specifically do a weapon swap and THEN switch to the skill I want to use, instead of ALWAYS having it switch to whatever skill was last used with that “weapon set”. It seems like some QoL behavior designed for a specific use-case, where you have two weapon sets and you wish to use a specific skill with one weapon set, and another or any skill with the other weapon set, and there’s no way to turn it off when you don’t have that use-case. I understand that your set of skills can change depending on the skills gained from the weapon sets, but that’s also a special use-case that should only need to be handled if your selected skill is not available with the weapon set you switch to. In that case, I would love the ability to turn this feature on.

The game has always been a tad slow to respond. now with the new gfx layered on top doing little glitchy things and the fact you can compare this game to other newer arpg’s, it can feel even slower than it has before.
