Why can’t I select the same skill twice after Tyraels quest reward

It won’t let me add the two skill point rewards to holy shield twice. I tried to read online about this I get no search results either. It’s lame I want to be able to add two points into holy shield.

Sounds like one of two things has happened:

  1. You have hit the maximum of 20 base points into Holy Shield
  2. You aren’t high enough level to put another point into Holy Shield.

For number 2, you have to be a level 24 to unlock holy shield. You can only put an additional point per additional level you’ve gained beyond that up to 20 max. So if you are level 30, you can only put 7 hard points into holy shield (1 at level 24, and 1 for each level up to 30).

I hope this helps you!

When I reached level 25 I put a point into holy shield then when I beat tyrael quest ( the one with Izual) and got two extra skills from him I used his reward to put a point into holy shield (now at 2) but I still has an extra point remaining from his reward but it wouldn’t let me put into holy shield it’s saying I have to put his point into something else

You aren’t required to put the point somewhere else. You can bank the skill point and spend it later.

Okay well it stil woudlnt let me put both into holy shield.

It’s because your character level is restricting you from adding more points. Holy Shield unlocks at level 24, which allows you to put one point in it. At level 25, you can add 1 more point… Level 26, 1 more point. Level 27, 1 more point… And so on.

Ok, so yes, this makes sense. Your scenario falls into #2 I listed:
-You aren’t high enough level to put another point into Holy Shield.

Once you unlock a skill, you can’t just dump all your points to it. You must be the appropriate level, and once you put a point into that skill, it raises the required level for the next point by one. So you unlocked holy shield at level 24, put your point in, now you are level 25 with 2 points. You can put one more in, but you can’t raise it to the next level because your character will be required to be level 26.

Big thing to note, is you can save your skill points. You don’t have to put that extra point to something right now. In fact, you might be looking at a level 30 skill, like Fist of the Heavens, or an aura for melee like fanatacism. Once you hit level 30, if you want to put points to something like that, and holy shield, you will need all these extra points you can save, or you have to pick one to focus on first.

I hope all this helps and makes sense!

But I thought having the reward from tyrael means I can add it like I’m not needing an extra level and it’s two freebies? Cause why would it let me add 1 without 2?

The Izual quest simply rewards +2 skill points… It doesn’t allow you to bypass character level skill point restrictions.

Okay you got me figured it out when you said putting a point raises the skill by 1. It’s raised by one so that’s why it made the skill a level ahead which is why I’m not able to keep up and only able to do 1 point

So if it ain’t clear, you must be level 43 to be able to have 20 hard points invested in holy shield

Just a general rule of thumb to go by:

Level 1 Skills can be maxed at level 20
Level 6 Skills at level 25
Level 12 Skills at level 31
Level 18 Skills at level 37
Level 24 Skills at level 43
Level 30 Skills at level 49

Level 49 and beyond, if you have the Skill points, any skill can be maxed. To push beyond level 20 requires Battle Command buff and/or +Skill attributes from your equipped gear and/or Charms(ex: Hellfire Torch, Anni, Skill GC’s). If you were playing Classic Diablo(aka non-Expansion), Charms don’t exist and much of the +Skill gear doesn’t exist either. Meaning your power is kept largely in check and the only class that can Teleport is the Sorceress without the means of piercing Enemy Resistance on Hell(save for Cold Mastery but there are tons of Cold Immunes).

Because as others have said, you need to be a certain level. You need to be lvl 24 for lvl 1 holy shield. You need to be level 25 for level 2 holy shield. You need to be level 26 for level 3 holy shield. You were level 25 with 2 skill points. You spent one, and were at lvl 2, the maximum level of holy shield for a character level 25. You can save it until you’re level 26 and then put it there, or use it on another skill.

This was a nice breath of fresh air helping someone with understanding the game. Hooray!
